ASSUMPTION 79, BRYANT 49

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior guard BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) scored 24 points an Assumption College ran past Bryant University, 79-49, in a Northeast-10 Conference game WEDNESDAY night.

The co-star of the game for the Greyhounds was a superb defensive effort limiting the usually sharpshooting Bulldogs to a .241 accuracy ... just 14-for-58 and just one-for-12 from three-point territory.

Senior forward SARA CZARNECKI (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) scored 12 points with game-high nine rebounds and a block, while freshman guard MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) chipped in 11 points.

Czarnecki scored a pair of free throws and Plasski buried a jumper in the paint to close out the first half ushering the Greyhounds to a 33-21 advantage. The Hounds then outscored Bryant, 18-8, to start the second half to move to a comfortable 51-29 lead.

Plasski started the run with a jumper from the wing and junior point guard TRISH GARDNER (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) (5 assists) made a pair of free throws before Bryant sophomore guard KRISTIN MRAZ (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) converted a driving layin to make it 37-23.

A free throw by senior forward/captain CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) and a layin by sophomore forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) sandwiched jumpers by Bryant sophomore forward ADRIANNE MAYSHAR (West Boylston, MA/Notre Dame) and sophomore forward JAMIE CAMPBELL (Springfield, MA/Minnechaug) made it, 38-27.

Another 9-0 spurt by the Greyhounds salted it away. Parker connected on a layin on a feed from Griffiths, Czarnecki made a free throw, Plasski a layin, two free throws by sophomore guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) and a layup by Czarnecki capped it at 47-27.

The Greyhounds, now 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference, shot a sizzling .700 in the second half (14-for-20). They are next in action SATURDAY when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley College at 1:30 p.m.
