Kayla Parker (22 points) leads Greyhound women's basketball past 9th ranked Bentley, 64-46, in Northeast-10 actionDecember 1, 2007
ASSUMPTION 64, BENTLEY 46
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) scored 22 points and added seven rebounds and four blocked shots as Assumption College ran past Bentley College, 64-46, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball SATURDAY at the Laska Gym.
The Greyhounds, now 7-2 overall, 3-1 in the conference, won for the third consecutive game against conference competition and are now 5-0 in the Laska Gym. Bentley, now 4-2 and 3-1, ranked No. 9 in the latest USAToday/ESPN/WBCA Division II coaches poll had its win streak snapped at four straight. Bentley owns wins over both defending national champion Southern Connecticut State and American International College---both picked to be among the conference leaders by the coaches in a pre-season poll. The Greyhounds also got solid performances from junior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) (14 points, 3 assists) and senior forward/captain CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) (5 points, team-high 11 rebounds, four steals). Bentley senior center VANESSA LUX (Arundel, ME/Catherine McAuley) made a jumper in the paint to make it 13-11 Greyhounds with 13:30 left in the first half. At this point the Hounds went on an 11-2 run to assume control, 24-13. Parker hit a wing jumper, then followed with a spin move for a layin before Lux hit a second lane jumper. Parker then connected on a three-pointer from the top-of-the-circle and then freshman guard MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) hit a baseline jumper and senior center MEGAN URBAN (Portland, ME/Deering) hit a lane jumper for an 11-point lead. The Falcons came back however to cut the deficit to three, 26-23, behind a 8 0 spurt keyed by Lux (lane jumper, free throw), senior guard ASHLEY BRUTON (Guilford, CT/Guilford) (three-pointer) and sophomore forward COLETTE JOSEY (Framingham, MA/Framingham) (layup). Then the Greyhounds ran a 7-0 streak of their own to finish the half in front, 32-23. Plasski started it with a layup and then a layup off the fastbreak. Junior point guard TRISH GARDNER (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) made two free throws to make a nine-point advantage, 32-23. The Greyhounds continued the flurry with the first 10 points of the second half to effectively put it out of reach. Plasski converted a layin off a feed from Floyd, made another layin on a coast to-coast drive and then drilled a lane jumper. Parker made a spinning layin off a Gardner assist and sophomore guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) finished the streak with a drive to the basket and a 42-23 lead. The Greyhounds are at Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College TUESDAY. CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE SCORING SUMMARY |
