Drew Adderly '92, Stephanie Martin '00 named to Northeast-10 Conference Hall of Fame

Former Assumption College standout student-athletes DREW ADDERLY '92 (Tuxedo Park, NY) and STEPHANIE MARTIN '00 (Arlington, MA) were among the Class of 2007 inductees of the Northeast-10 Conference.

Fourteen student-athletes, two administrators and one team were recognized. The Hall of Fame inductees have been chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Hall of Fame committee.

The inductees were honored at the Northeast-10 Awards Banquet at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston June 4. The ceremony also included the presentation of the Northeast-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year, as well as the awarding of the President's Cup.

Greyhound tennis standout MATT STOPP '07 (Altoona, PA/Altoona) received his male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.


DREW ADDERLY '92

Basketball

The leading scorer in the history of Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball and the College, DREW ADDERLY '92 averaged 20.1 points-per-game, earned all-New England honors four times, all-conference three times and was a two-time all-America.

The raw figures were staggering---2,489 points, 820 rebounds, 235 steals, a record 642-for-901 free throws, a .556 career field goal percentage, 115 double figure scoring games, three straight Northeast-10 Conference championships and two N.C.A.A. regional tournaments. He set the standard bar up high and only he could 'sky' high enough to reach it time and time again.

The team won 82 games in his career---averaging to over 20 per season---and finished an extraordinary 54-18 in conference play. He is one of only four players to average over 20 points for a career, one of three to have scored 700 points in a season---and a freshman record of 491 in 1988-89---and the first non-post player to shoot over .600 from the floor (.620) in 1989-90. He was captain and team Most Valuable Player as both a junior and senior and was the first student-athlete to win the Andrew Laska Award as the male athlete-of-the-year three times

He scored a Laska Gym record 47 points in a crucial playoff win over Stonehill College in 1992---which led to the Hounds receiving an N.C.A.A. berth.

He is presently an Institutional Equities Trader of Utendahl Capital Partners, L.P. in New York, NY and also serves as Vice-President of the International Youth Basketball, a non-proft organization that hosts tournaments, leagues and camps for children.

He played professional basketball in Brazil, Cyprus, Finland, Hungary, Sweden and Venezuela---winning two national championships as well as an international championship in Europe. He also played briefly with the Albany Patroons (CBA).

He was graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. He and wife Robbi and family reside in Tuxedo Park, NY.


STEPHANIE J. MARTIN '00

Soccer, Softball

One of the great female student-athletes in the history of the College STEPHANIE J. MARTIN '00 left her imprint on two sports---either one of which could have earned her Hall of Fame honors.

She was named the winner of the Andrew Laska Award as the Female Athlete-of-the-Year at the College in both 1999 and 2000. She earned all Northeast-10 Conference honors eight times in two sports and was a three time all-New England performer in softball as well.

She earned third-team all America honors in softball in 2000 and played on teams that posted a amazing cumulative 177-84-6 record . . . most for any student-athlete in Assumption College history. She captained both sports as a senior.

She is the career scoring leader for the women's soccer program with 46 goals, 28 assists and 120 points for Coach Jim Gondek. She scored 12, 11, 9 and 14 goals in her four seasons---the only player in Hounds history to lead the team four times and also have double-figure totals in three.

She also holds career marks for games played (81), most goals (46), most points (120) and most shots (270).

She led the soccer Greyhounds to to Northeast-10 Conference finals and the 1999 E.C.A.C. postseason championship. She assisted on the game winning goal in each of the three on-the-road wins in the E.C.A.C. tournament.

In softball she led batted over .400 four times for Coaches Dan Santerre and helping the Greyhounds win a pair of Northeast 10 Conference championships and the 1999 E.C.A.C. postseason title.

She is listed among the career leaders in games (180t), at bats (561), runs (147), hits (241), singles (221), stolen bases (52), sacrifices (58) and batting average (.430). She batted .413, .442, .445 and .411 in her four seasons. Defensively she made just 18 errors in nearly 700 chances including an amazing one error in 180 chances in 1999.

She received her B.A. in Management with a minor in Education in 2000.

She is currently a third-grade teacher at the Cyrus Dallin Elementary School and still resides in Arlington, MA.

Other former student athletes to be inducted include: Maria Bras-Benitez (Volleyball: 1991-1995) of Bryant, Jen Bunce (Field Hockey: 1996-1999) of Bentley, David French (Golf: 1985-1989) of Bryant, Juana Garcia (Basketball: 1992-1996) of American International, James Hector (Basketball: 1990-1994) of American International, Michael Hill (Baseball: 1993-1997) of Bentley, Lucas Jaramillo (Soccer: 1992-1996) of Bentley, Carolyn McGowan (Softball: 1995-1999) of American International, Gary Mello (Cross Country: 1997-2001) of Bentley, Mary Naughton (Basketball: 1985-1989) of Stonehill, Sue Plante (Soccer: 1986-1990) of Merrimack, Hassan Robinson (Basketball/Baseball: 1991-1995) of Springfield.

Other inductees include Donna Guimont, who will be inducted for her service at Saint Anselm and Ed Markey, a former administrator at Saint Michael's .

In addition to these individual inductions, this year the Northeast-10 will induct a team for the first time---the 1994 Merrimack Softball team, the Northeast-10's first NCAA Division II national championship winner.


Matt Stopp: NE-10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Assumption College senior tennis standout MATT STOPP (Altoona, PA/Altoona) has been named the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year as selected by the conference Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR) Council. He will be a candidate for the N.C.A.A. Division II Conference Commissioner's Association National Scholar-Athlete of the Year award sponsored by Disney Sports Attractions. That announcement will be made in July.

Stopp is the sixth Greyhound student-athlete and third tennis player to win the coveted prize since its inception in 2000. Previous winners have included: 2001, Stacy Mattioli (basketball); 2002, Heather Schlesinger (field hockey); 2003, Sean Kenney (tennis); 2005, James Newman (tennis, golf) and 2006, Jen Mongeau (lacrosse).

"Matt is one of the premier student-athletes in our history," said Ted Paulauskas, Director of Athletics. "A superb student, he was graduated (May 12, 2007) among the leaders in his class, while as a standout tennis player he served as a two-year captain and won over 95 percent of his matches on one of the most dominant teams in the conference. He is also a true gentleman and prototype to what we hope all Assumption College student-athletes will aspire."

Stopp has been a major cog as the men's tennis team has dominated the Northeast-10 Conference increasing its record conference win streak to an amazing 117 consecutive matches. The team posted an amazing 69-8 overall record including an undefeated 43-0 in conference regular-season and 12-0 in conference post-season. And, the team won 52 of its 56 regular-season matches in his career. The team won improved its team record to nine consecutive regular-season and post-season conference championships.

He posted a 61-3 career singles record (fourth best in Hound annals) with the best won-loss percentage (.953) in team history. His doubles record is 66-5 (fifth best in Hound annals) with the second-best won-loss percentage (.930). The Greyhounds competed in their eighth straight N.C.A.A. Division II tournament in early May.

He earned first-team all-conference honors in both singles and doubles in each of his four years. In addition he has earned Northeast-10 Conference all-academic team honors in each of the three years of the awards existence along with Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) all academic mention. He was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN academic all-region team in both 2005-06 and 2006-07 and is prime candidate for an N.C.A.A. postgraduate scholarship.

He is also among the top students at the College earning a 3.90 cumulative grade point average and received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He earned a position on the College's Dean's List in eight straight semesters and also an athletics department Director's Citation in all eight previous marking periods as well. He was the lone student-athlete to post a 4.00 grade point average in both the fall and spring semesters this past year and was honored at the College's recent Academic Honors Convocation with the highest GPA in his major.

Off the court he is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a Resident Assistant Perspective Leaders and is a part of the Natural High Program Organizer.

He is the son of Ron and Anita Stopp of Altoona, PA and a graduate of Altoona High School. He has indicated interest in the ATP satellite pro tennis tour before settling on a choice of graduate school.
