Murphy, Sullivan lead Greyhounds men's soccer past Saint Rose, 1-0, in Northeast-10 action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward/captain PAUL MURPHY (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) scored the game's lone goal and freshman goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) recorded the shutout as the Assumption College men's soccer team defeated the College of Saint Rose, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference game here SATURDAY at the Multi-Sports Stadium.

Murphy's goal, his ninth of the season, came just 18:23 into the first half. Sent in alone by freshman forward STEVE BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) Murphy shot from the middle of the net into the far corner.

Only 10 players in Greyhounds history have scored as many as 10 goals in a single season. Chris Laut '05 was the last scoring 12 goals in 2004.

The Greyhounds, now 4-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the conference, are 3 2-2 over their last seven games including 2-0-1 on their home field. Saint Rose is now 1-12-1 overall and 1-8-1.

Sullivan posted his fourth shutout of the season and third in the last five games. He has allowed just one goal in his last three home games. He also lowered his season goals-against average to 1.47 and improved his save percentage to .789. He has played all 1410 minutes in 15 starts for the Greyhounds this season.

Saint Rose senior goalkeeper PATRICK WHALEN (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) made seven saves in net for the Golden Knights.

Assumption outshot the Knights, 14-5, and enjoyed a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Greyhounds are next in action TUESDAY at Northeast-10 Conference rival Bryant University at 7 p.m. They will finish their regular season schedule at home against conference opponent Southern New Hampshire (Friday, 19th) and non-conference opponent Post, CT (Wednesday, 24th).
