Paul Murphy's two goals, Brandon Sullivan shutout key Hounds men's soccer past Stonehill, 3-0September 22, 2007

EASTON, Mass. --- Assumption College scored three first-half goals and freshman goalkeeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/St. Dominic's) recorded his second career shutout as the Greyhound men's soccer team defeated Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College, 3-0, here SATURDAY.
Senior forward PAUL MURPHY (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) scored two of the goals and freshman forward JEFFREY SWAN (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield-Ludlowe) added an insurance tally all before the 40 minute mark of the half. Murphy scored his first goal off an assist from freshman midfielder BRENDAN MC GEE (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Guertin). McGee shot a low line drive off the right side which Stonehill goalie Dan Kerl made the save. Murphy scored on the rebound at 9:57. Just under five minutes later Murphy scored again as freshman forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) sent him alone on goal. Murphy blasted a shot into the upper left corner for his seventh goal of the season. Swan, who leads the team with seven assists, scored his third goal with an assist to sophomore midfielder CHRIS BOURDEAU (Thompson, CT/Tourtellotte). Swan redirected a Bourdeau header from the right side. Sullivan, who has played every minute this season, had three saves in net to get his second shutout and first in Northeast-10 Conference action. He previously shutout non-conference rival Queens, NY (5-0) in the Hounds second game this season. The Greyhounds outshot the Skyhawks, 10-8 and had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Greyhounds are now 2-7-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference, while Stonehill is 2-6-1, 0-5-1. CLICK HERE for complete scoring summary |
