Blaisdell's two goals lead Greyhound men's soccer past Southern New Hampshire, 4-1, in NE-10 action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) scored two goals as Assumption College defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 4-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer game FRIDAY night in the Multi-Sports Stadium.
The win improves the Greyhounds record to 5-9-3 overall and 4-7-2 in the conference. Since opening a diappointing 1-6-1, the Hounds have earned a 4-3-2 mark over their last nine games. Southern New Hampshire is now 5-6-5 and 5-5-2.
Freshman midfielder BRENDAN MC GEE (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Guertin) opened the scoring for the Greyhounds taking a feed from Blaisdell and shooting to the far left post for his first career goal just 3:29 into the game.
The Penmen got right back into the game as DANIEL HERNANDEZ (Salem, NH/Salem) scored his second goal of the season unassisted on a rebound at 27:55. Then Blaisdell scored two quick goals to put the Greyhounds in command 3-1 at the halftime break.
The first goal came on an assist from sophomore midfielder DOUG STARBIRD (Dunstable, MA/Groton-Dunstable) at 42:10 and the second unassisted on a breakaway just two minutes later.
Senior forward captain JOE DRAIN (Milton, MA/Milton) would add an insurance goal at 78:23 off an indirect kick just outside the box.
The Greyhounds freshman goalkeeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/St. Dominic's) was superb in goal making seven saves. He has now played all 1590 minutes this season with a 1.47 goals-against average and 101 saves (.795 save percentage).
Southern New Hampshire outshot the Gryehounds 12-9 including 8-4 in the first half when the Greyhounds scored on three of their four shots. Southern also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Assumption will conclude its regular-season Wednesday (October 24) when they host non-conference rival Post, CT at 7 p.m. They will celebrate Senior Night, honoring the team's lone four-year player, captain Joe Drain.
