Blaisdell, Prete score two goals each as Greyhound men's soccer defeats Post, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore defender AUSTIN PRETE (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and freshman forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) each scored two goals as Assumption College defeated non-conference rival Post University, 4-1, in men's soccer action WEDNESDAY at the Multi-Sports Stadium.

In addition, freshman goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic's) set the Greyhounds' record for most minutes (1676) and tied the record for most games played (18).

The Greyhounds under first-year head coach JEREMY BONOMO finished the season 6-9-3 overall and 4-7-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. They ended the season by posting a 5-3-2 mark over the last 10 games. In addition, they won their last four home contests and were 4-0-1 in the their last five, outscoring the opposition, 11-3. Sullivan posted shutouts in games against Merrimack (0-0) and Saint Rose (1 0).

Blasidell opened the scoring for the Greyhounds at 9:07 of the first half as he took a perfect pass from sophomore midfielder USEN ESIET (Falls Church, VA/Corona, Nigeria) and headed the ball past Post goalkeeper CHRIS OUELLETTE (Uncasville, CT/Montville).

Prete made it 2-0 with his second goal of the season and unassisted effort as he stole off an errant defense clear and shot into an open right corner of the net.


Post got on the board as sophomore forward EURICA TROWERS (Bronx, NY/Clinton) scored his 12th of the season on a pass from freshman forward FRANTZY NOZE (Norwich, CT/Norwich Free Academy) with an 18-foot blast into the right corner.

Prete gave the Greyhounds breathing room as he scored his third goal on a feed from junior forward PAUL MURPHY (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) at 67:30. Murphy's pass came from the far left and Prete's shot found the left corner.

Blaisdell's seventh goal of the season provided additional insurance at 82:06 converting a feed from sophomore midfielder CHRIS BOURDEAU (Thompson, CT/Tourtellotte).

Assumption outshot Post, 17-8. Sullivan made two saves, while sophomore MIKE CUGNO (Medford, MA/Medford) made one in a short relief stint.
