Mike Molk, Matt Klaskin key Greyhounds men's lacrosse past Nichols, 13-3March 12, 2008
ASSUMPTION 13, NICHOLS 3
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior midfielder MIKE MOLK (Danvers, MA/Danvers) and senior midfielder MATT KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) each scored three goals as Assumption College defeated Nichols College, 13 3, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game WEDNESDAY night in the Multi-Sport Stadium. Senior goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD (North Andover, MA/St. John's Prep) made nine saves in a 45-minute start for the Greyhounds, while sophomore DAN SHEA (Wrentham, MA/King Philip) had three more to finish up. The Greyhounds have now won two straight---over Briarcliffe (21-3) and Nichols to improve their record to 2-2. Nichols is now 0-3. After Nichols' freshman attack RYAN PACIFIC (Danbury, CT/Danbury) opened the scoring with 9:50 left in the first period, the Hounds scored three straight goals for a 3-1 first-period advantage. Freshman attack NICHOLAS VIOLANDI (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored his fifth goal on a nice feed from junior attack KEVIN JURGENS (Needham, MA/Needham) to tie it with 7:02 left and then Jurgens scored his eighth goal to put the Greyhounds in front to stay from senior BRANDON MAC NEIL (Surrey, BC/Delta Secondary). Freshman attack JOHN MURPHY (Walpole, MA/Bridgton Academy) made it 3-1 with three seconds left. The second period was a carbon copy of the first as Nichols' freshman attack BRIAN GATTIE (Plainfield, MA/Lebanon) scored with 9:21 left and then Hounds finished with three goal to lead 6-2 at the break. They would score all five goals of the third period and the first of the fourth period for a nine goal unanswered spurt and a 12-2 lead. Murphy (his fifth), Molk (his fourth) and junior midfielder KYLE MC KAY (Cranston, RI/Hendricken) finished the first-half scoring parade.
The Greyhounds outshot the Bison 40-27. Nichols' freshman goalie JUSTIN BERRETT (Plymouth, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret) made 11 saves. The Greyhounds are next in action when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College TUESDAY, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
