WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore attack KEVIN KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) scored two goals and tied a team-record with six assists for a season-high eight points and senior midfielder BRANDON MAC NEIL (Surrey, BC/Delta Secondary) moved into fourth-place on the career scoring list with seven points (3 goals) as Assumption College rambled past American International College, 20-8, in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse THURSDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
MacNeil and junior midfielder MIKE MOLK (Danvers, MA/Danvers) each scored three goals for the Greyhounds, while junior attack KEVIN JURGENS (Needham, MA/Needham), freshman attack JOHN MURPHY (Walpole, MA/Bridgton Academy), senior midfielder MATT KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) and sophomore midfielder MATT REYNOLDS (Hamden, CT/Hamden) each added two goal apiece. At halftime the Greyhounds honored their seniors playing in their final home game including captain/defender ALEX IORIO (Needham, MA/Needham), captain/attack MATT KLASKIN, captain/goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD (North Andover, MA/Saint John's Prep), midfielder DONNIE BOWERS (Essex, VT/Essex), defender HAKIM MORRIS (West Hartford, CT/Conard), midfielder BRANDON MAC NEIL (Surrey, BC/Delta Secondary) and defender BRIAN MC COWAN (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton). The Greyhounds sped to an 8-2 lead at the half as Jurgens and Molk each scored two goals and Kevin Klaskin added three assists. Morris scored his first career goal on an fine individual effort with 3:48 left in the half. They added eight more in an offensive explosion in the third period moving to a 16-6 advantage. MacNeil had three goal and three assists extending his career assists record to 67 and his point total to 23-68--91. He is now fourth on the Greyhounds' career scoring list: Justin Cecil (1993, 95-96) (91-61--152); Dave Ducey (1981-84) (62-38--100) and Bryan Parks (2004-06) (65-28--93). He is also the team leader this season with 10-20--30 points. Previous six-assist games belonged to: Jay Sweeney vs. Unity, ME (4-12-80), Kevin Stone vs. Clark (4-6-82) and Justin Cecil at Curry (4-17-95) and at Mass. Maritime (4-25-95). Also scoring for the Greyhounds were Bowers, freshman attack GAETANO GIAMBROCCO (Leominster, MA/Saint Bernard's) and freshman attack NICHOLAS VIOLANDI (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury). Freshman attack TRAVIS ORTENSI (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley), sophomore midfielder MIKE SZAWLOWSKI (Leeds, MA/Northampton) and freshman attack DAN MAC ISAAC (Port Perry, ONT/Port Perry) each had two goals to lead the Yellow Jackets, while freshman midfielder AARON MC NAB (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) and senior midfielder LEON MULARSKI Ivoryton, CT/Xavier) had one each. Senior goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD (North Andover, MA/Saint John's Prep) played the first 36 minutes and made seven saves for the win, while sophomore DAN SHEA (Wrentham, MA/King Philip) (1 save) and freshman SCOTT VOGEL (Powell, OH/Olentangy-Liberty) (1 save) finished. American International freshman goalkeeper MARK TAYLOR (North Andover, MA/North Andover) had 12 saves. Assumption outshot the Yellow Jackets, 43-23, and owned an impressive 46 22 ground ball advantage. The Greyhounds are now 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the conference, while American International is now 1-10 and 0-10. Assumption completes its season Saturday at Franklin Pierce at 12 noon.
