Diethorn finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds, his second straight double-double in the regionals and Foti was the games' leading scorer with 16 points. But, it was the defensive work of Shea on the Northeast-10 Conference Player-of-the-Year, senior guard STEVE DAGOSTINO (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), who finished with 15 points on just four-for-12 shooting (two-for-seven from three point territory), that proved decisive. The Greyhounds' defensive effort was so stifling the Golden Knights shot just 32.1 percent from the floor for the game and made just two-of-16 three pointers. The Hounds trailed 28-25 at the half however outscored the Knights 7-4 to tie the game at 32-32 early in the second period as senior forward GREG TWOMEY (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) made a lane jumper with 14:35 left. Junior guard MITCH BAJEMA (Whitinsville, MA/Whitinsville Christian) then made a jumper in the paint before the Knights' sophomore guard JERMAINE CLARK (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) converted a layin off a fastbreak pass from Dagostino. Twomey followed with a straight-away three-pointer and freshman guard BEN JOHNSON (Pictou County, Nova Scotia/St. David Catholic) made one of two free throws. A three-pointer by Foti made it a five-point game at 40-35 with 9:42 left. When Foti hit another three-pointer with 4:41 left the Hounds led 48-40 before Saint Rose crawled back into contention. Dagostino made two free throws and senior guard WILL MONICA (Great Falls, VA/Langley) hit a lane jumper with 1:22 left to cut the gap to 48-44. After an inside move by Twomey again gave his team a six-point lead, the Hounds struggled at the free throw line over the last minute---making just two-of-five. The Knights' junior forward EVAN LANE (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs) (14 points, 14 rebounds) converted inside and made the ensuing free throw to narrow the game to 51-49 with 13 seconds left. After Diethorn made one free throw with 11 seconds left Lane made a putback with a second left to account for the final score.
