Hounds' Corey Diethorn to play in NABC East-West Game, March 28 in SpringfieldMarch 23, 2008
Assumption College senior forward COREY DIETHORN (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy) has been selected to play in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/NCAA Division II All-Star Game Friday, March 28 at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Center Court in Springfield, MA. Diethorn, who has already earned Northeast-10 Conference second-team honors and was on the all-tournament team at the recently completed N.C.A.A. Division II Northeast Regional, will play for the East squad as one of 20 student-athletes selected for the game. It was also announced that he had been selected on the second-team all-region team picked by the NABC coaches. The All-Star contest will be a part of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Championship, scheduled for March 26, 27 and 29 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.
Diethorn averaged 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds while leading the Northeast-10 Conference in blocked shots (77). He also posted a .509 fiield goal percentage (199-for-391) and finished his career with 1,175 points as the Greyhounds' 24th leading scorer. The Greyhounds finished 24-11 as the most improved team in the region (11-17 last year) and advanced to the final of the regional playoffs. The Hounds were impressive as they played 17 games against N.C.A.A. tournament teams, including three teams which are headed to the Elite Eight (Bentley, Winona State, MN, North Alabama). The All-Star Game will match an East All-Star Team (10 student-athletes from the East, Northeast, South and South Atlantic Regions) against a West All-Star Team (10 student-athletes from the Great Lakes, North Central, South Central and West Regions). The East squad also includes Sean Barnette, Wingate; Jeremy Black, Tampa; Brad Byerson, Virginia Union; Steve Dagostino, Saint Rose; Chris Gilliam, Pittsburgh Johnstown; Charlie Parker, Millersville; Jonny Reibel, Rollins; Michael Sturns, Holy Family; Ryan Williams, Pace and head coach Vincent Alexander, South Carolina-Aiken. The West team includes Jeff Fahnbulleh, Kentucky Wesleyan, Cory Abercrombie, Pittsburg State; David Dreas, St. Cloud State; Robert Lee, West Texas A&M; Vince Mosley, Gannon; Avery Patterson, Tarleton State; Devin Peal, Humboldt State; Paul Peterson, BYU-Hawaii; Marlon Pierce, Cal State San Bernardino; Atila Santos, Minnesota State-Mankato and head coach Bill Tressler, San Francisco State.
