Junior goalie David Pinkham leads Ice Dogs past Suffolk (6-3) into UBS title game tonight

FITCHBURG, Mass. --- Assumption College scored two first-period power play goals en route to a 6-3 win over Suffolk University in the first round of the UBS-Paine Webber Classic here FRIDAY at the Wallace Civic Center.
Junior goalkeeper DAVID PINKHAM (Malden, MA/Arlington Catholic) made 29 saves to improve his record to 2-0 on the young season.
Sophomore left wing ATTE UOLA (Turku, Finland/Holderness School) opened the scoring just 2:22 into the period with his second goal of the season with assists to freshman left wing MATT ST. PIERRE (Alexandrai, VA/Bishop Ireton/Hebron Academy) and freshman center PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/St. John's).
Later in the period senior center MIKE RUST (Laguna Niguel, CA/Cushing Academy) scored his second goal of the season unassisted also on the power play at 16:27. The Rams got on the board with just six seconds left in the period on an unassisted goal by sophomore defenseman NICK DAVIS (Pittsburgh, PA/Northern Mass AJHL), his first of the season.
Senior left wing/captain JIM TRAHON (Needham, MA/Needham/Salisbury School) scored just 1:14 into the secnd period before the Rams scored two goals on by junior forward KYLE COOK (Chin Hills, CA/Ayala and the second by senior forward TIM DANCEY (Anaheim, CA/Berkshire School) to tie the game at 3-3 just 7:59 into the period.
Senior left wing SEAN STAID (Peabody, MA/St. Mary's/Northfield-Mt. Hermon) socred the eventual game-winner on feeds from senior defenseman PHIL DEMERS (Auburn, MA/St. John's) and Uola.
Insurance goals by senior center/captain MATT PAGET (Hingham, MA/Hingham/Winchendon School), on the power play, and senior center/captain LUKE MC DONOUGH (Norfolk, MA/Mt. St. Charles) made it a three-goal final.
Sophomore BILL GILBERT (Forestdale, MA/Bridgewater EJHL) (15 saves) and freshman JEFF ROSE (Collinsville, CT/Valley EJHL) (17 saves) split the goaltender chores for Suffolk combining for 32 saves.
The Ice Dogs (2-2) will play Fitchburg State, who defeated Worcester State 7-1 in the second game, in the championship game tonight at 5:15 p.m., while Suffolk (1-1) faces Worcester State in the third-place game at 2:15 p.m.
