Matt St. Pierre game-winner lifts Ice Dogs past Framingham State, 5-3

MARLBORO, Mass. --- Freshman left wing MATT ST. PIERRE (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton/Hebron) (2-2--4) scored the game-winner 1:20 into the third period and junior goaltender DAVID PINKHAM (Malden, MA/Arlington Catholic) turned aside 39 shots as Assumption College defeated Framingham State College, 5-3, in a non-conference ice hockey game SATURDAY at the Loring Arena.


Assumption is now 4-4 overall for the season, while Framingham State is 0-7. The Greyhounds defeated the Rams, 4-3, in the Dunkin' Donuts Classic hosted by Becker College November 3.

Framingham State moved to a 3-1 advantage in the second period scoring three unanswered goals capped by a power-play goal by senior center NICHOLAS GLUM (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham), his team-leading fifth of the season, at 17:34.

The Greyhounds then scored the game's final four goals including two in the final two minutes of the period.

Senior right wing PATRICK CIUMMO (Harrisville, RI/Mt. St. Charles/Winchendon School) (2-0--2) started the comeback with his second goal of the season on a feed from junior center FRANK BOVA (Princeton, MA/Wachusett) (1-2--3) at 18:10. Greyhounds leading scorer, senior center LUKE MC DONOUGH (Norfolk, MA/Mt. St. Charles) (4-5--9) scored his fourth goal on assists from senior JIM TRAHON (Needham, MA/Needham/Salisbury School) (3-4--7) and senior JOHN ROUTHIER (Saugus, MA/Malden Catholic/Winchendon School) (3-4--7), to tie the game at 19:02.

St. Pierre scored his second goal of the season from freshman PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/St. John's) (1-7--8) (his seventh assist of the season) and sophomore ATTE UOLA (Turku, Finland/Lot Gymnasium/Holderness School) (3-3--6) to put the Greyhounds in front. Trahon's third goal of the season, and second of the game, provided insurance at 9:36.

Trahon, who received the game's first star, opened the scoring for the Greyhounds on a feed from Mc Donough at 14:07 of the first period. Framingham State's sophomore forward JASON ANDERSON (Arden Hills, MN/Laconia Leafs) and sophomore defenseman JOSH WILLIAMS (Upper Marlboro, MD/Washington Jr. Nationals) scored before Glum's power play goal gave the Rams a 3-1 advantage.

Rams sophomore goaltender PETER DUNDOVICH (Philadelphia, PA) (third star) made 28 saves in net for Framingham State. The Hounds' Pinkham, who was awarded the game's second star, is now 3-1 on the season and lowered his goals-against average to 3.53 over 289 minutes. His .907 save percentage is among the leaders in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Framingham State outshot the Greyhounds, 42-33, including a wide 20-7 advantage in a second-period barrage. Assumption hosts Western New England College in another non-conference game TUESDAY at the Buffone Rink. Faceoff is at 7:30 p.m.
