Atte Uola scores game-winner as ice hockey stops Framingham State, 4-3, in Dunkin Donuts ClassicNovember 3, 2007
ASSUMPTION 4, FRAMINGHAM STATE 3
MARLBORO, Mass. --- Sophomore forward ATTE UOLA (Turku, Finland/Lot Gymnasium) scored an unassisted goal with 2:16 remaining as Assumption College defeated Framingham State College, 4-3, in the third-place game of the Dunkin Donuts Classic hosted by Becker College SATURDAY at the New England Sports Center. The Ice Dogs got a solid performance in goal from junior DAVID PINKHAM (Malden, MA/Arlington Catholic) who made 34 saves for his first victory of the season. Sophomore ANDY JOYCE (Milford, MA/Marlboro) made 29 saves for the Rams. Assumption got on the board first as sophomore right wing JAMES CAPULLI (Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) scored a shorthanded goal at 6:32 of the first period. The Rams would come back with two second-period goals to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore forward JEREMY SCHMIDT (Huffman, TX/Kingswood Mustangs) scored his first goal of the season with assists going to freshman defenseman RYAN WALSH (Tewksbury, MA/N.E. Junior Huskies) and senior forward JASON AKSTIN (Bridgewater, MA/Bridgewater Jr. Bandits) at 4:01. Sophomore forward JOE MULVEY (Marlboro, MA/Marlboro) put the Rams ahead with his first goal from Walsh and Schmidt at 11:42. Assumption tied the game at 2-2 when senior center MIKE RUST (Laguna Miguel, CA/Cushing Academy) converted a power play goal on a feed from freshman right wing MIKE DWYER (Somerville, MA/Worcester Academy). Junior center FRANK BOVA (Princeton, MA/Wachusett) scored the go-ahead goal from senior left wing JOHN ROUTHIER (Saugus, MA/Malden Catholic) and freshman forward PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/St. John's)---named to the all-tournament team---7:15 into the third period. Less than two minutes later Framingham State tied the game as senior center NICHOLAS GLUM (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) scored on the power play from Akstin. Assumption, now 1-1, will play at Nichols College WEDNESDAY at 7 p.m. before opening play in the UBS Paine-Webber Classic Friday and Saturday at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg.
