Rob Younker leads Greyhound golf to second-place finish in NE-10 championship

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

TEWKSBURY, Mass. --- Junior captain ROB YOUNKER (Waltham, MA/Waltham) (PICTURED RIGHT) recorded a 76-74--150 to finish fourth overall individually leading the Assumption College men's golf team to a best-ever second-place team finish in the Northeast-10 Conference championship played here Sunday and Monday at the 6,740 yard, par-72 Vesper Country Club.

Bentley College repeated as champion with a two-day total of 311-305--616, while the Greyhounds finished just four strokes back at 309-311--620. First-round leader Bryant University finished third at 304-319--623. Saint Anselm (310-319--629) and Le Moyne (318-312--629) rounded out the top five.

Younker, who led the Greyhounds to their previous best-ever fourth-place finish in the tournament last year has now finished third and fourth the last two years. He earned first-team all-conference honors for the second consecutive year.

Younker was ably supported by freshman STEVE WOLAK (North Grosvenordale, CT/Tourtellotte) (76-79--155), junior captain JAMIE FARREA (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) (83-75--158), junior captain TYLER JOHNSON (Holden, MA/Wachusett) (77-83--160) and sophomore DAVID TURNBLOM (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's) (80-85--165).

Younker has been remarkably consistent this season with a medal average of 73.9---he has posted rounds of 75, 74, 73, 74, 71, 76, and 74 for his seven rounds. The Greyhounds have won the Assumption College Shoot Out and the Dowling Invitational and finished 11th in the ECAC Championship last week.

They next play in the Adelphi University Tournament, October 7-8, at the Tall Grass Country Club in Shoreham, NY.
