Rob Younker, Tyler Cleary lead Greyhound golf to Shoot Out Championship

PETERSHAM, Mass. --- Junior captain ROB YOUNKER (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and sophomore TYLER CLEARY (Newington, CT/Newington) each carded five-over 75 to lead the Assumption College golf team to its second straight championship in the Assumption College Shoot Out here SUNDAY at the Petersham Country Club.

The Greyhounds finished first with a team score of 306 followed by Bentley College (309), Worcester State (321), College of Saint Rose (328), American International College (330) and the University of New Haven (339).

Bentley College senior BOB LEOPOLD (Surrey, United Kingdom) was the individual medalist with a three-over 73, while American International College's GARRETT BEYOR (Monson, MA) was a shot back with a 74. Younker, Cleary and Bentley junior ANDY BURKE (Westwood, MA) rounded out the top five with 75s.

The Greyhounds, who earned their second N.C.A.A. super regional tournament berth last May, also got solid efforts from sophomore DAVID TURNBLOM (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's) (78), freshman STEVE WOLAK (North Grosvenordale, CT/Tourtellotte) (78) and junior TYLER JOHNSON (Holden, MA/Wachusett) (85).

The Greyhounds are next in action in the the Dowling College Tournament---36 holes over two days) next Sunday and Monday at the Long Island National Golf Course in Riverhead, NY. The ECAC Division II championship is September 23-24 and the Northeast-10 Conference championship is September 30-October 1.
