Maura Strickland's OT goals leads Greyhound field hockey past Saint Anselm, 2-1September 6, 2007
ASSUMPTION 2, SAINT ANSELM 1, overtime
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward MAURA STRICKLAND (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) scored her first goal of the season in the first overtime period as Assumption College defeated Saint Anselm College, 2-1, in field hockey. The Greyhounds are now 2-1 having registered back-to-back overtime wins over Northeast-10 Conference rivals from New Hampshire. Assumption defeated Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, Saturday. Strickland's goal was the finish of a partial breakaway taking a pass from senior/captain midfielder JENNA LUCE (Conway, MA/Frontier Regional) and converted a low line drive shot to the left corner of the net. Greyhounds senior goalkeeper KAITLIN BURKE (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) was steady in net with seven saves over 72:42. The teams traded goals in the first 16 minutes as the Hawks sophomore forward Karrie Muma (North Falmouth, MA/Bishop Stang) scored her second goal of the young season converting a rebound past Burke at 12:09. Junior midfielder Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) was credited with the assist. The Greyhounds struck right back at 15:50 as sophomore forward HILLARY ZYSK (Walpole, MA/Walpole) beat Hawk sophomore goalie Riley Haddock (Famouth, ME/Falmouth) to the right side. Sophomore forward SARAH RANIERI (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) earned her first assist of the season. Haddock ended with 16 saves in the Hawks goal. The Greyhounds held a territorial advantage outshooting the Hawks, 26-10, and owning a wide advantage in penalty corner opportunities, 22-4. Assumption, now 2-1 overall, is at nationally ranked UMass Lowell SATURDAY at 1 p.m. Saint Anselm is now 1-3.
