Jenna Luce's OT goal lifts field hockey past Franklin Pierce, 3-2September 20, 2007
ASSUMPTION 3, FRANKLIN PIERCE 2, overtime
RINDGE, NH --- Senior midfielder JENNA LUCE (Conway, MA/Frontier Regional) scored off a direct corner in overtime as Assumption College defeated Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, in a non-conference field hockey game here THURSDAY night.
Luce's game-winner, her first goal of the season, came off a feed from junior midfielder BRITTANY FORD (Worcester, MA/Notre Dame) at 84:26. The win was the second this season for the Greyhounds over Franklin Pierce. Franklin Pierce took at 1-0 lead at 31:02 as freshman forward Emily Morrissey (Hubbardston, MA/Quabbin) scored her first goal of the season off her own rebound. The Greyhounds tied the game just under five minutes later as senior forward SARAH BULLOCK (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) scored off an assist from junior forward SANDY GARNEY (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill). Garney controlled the ball right down the middle and passed to a wide open Bullock on her left who beat Raven's first-year goalkeeper Tevis Harrington (Canton, MA/Notre Dame) to the glove side. The Greyhounds then went ahead at 52:22 as sophomore forward HILLARY ZYSK (Walpole, MA/Walpole) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Luce took the original shot on goal and then Zysk gathered in the rebound off a scramble and swept it into the right corner. Post-graduate forward Mary Beth Huszar (Greenfield, MA/Mascenic) scored her fifth goal of the season to the game for the Ravens at 60:42. She soloed in and made a nice spin move and tucked the ball in the far corner. Junior goalkeeper JACQUE DU LONG (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) made six saves in net to pots the victory. Harrington also made six for the Ravens. Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 19-11, including an 11-2 advantage in the second half. Franklin Pierce enjoyed a 14-13 advantage in penalty corners.
