Sarah Ranieri leads Greyhounds field hockey past American International, 1-0September 29, 2007
ASSUMPTION 1, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL 0
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Sophomore forward SARAH RANIERI (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) scored the game's lone goal and senior goalkeeper KAITLIN BURKE pitched the shutout as Assumption College defeated American International College, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference field hockey game here SATURDAY. The Greyhounds have now won three of their last four games---all on the road---to improve their overall record to 5-6 (3-6 in the conference). Two of those wins have come via the shutout route as Burke also blanked Merrimack (2-0) last Saturday. Ranieri scored her fourth goal of the season in the 63rd minute after a scramble in front of American International goalkeeper Nicole Spence. It was her second game-winner of the season also having stopped Franklin Pierce with an overtime goal September 1. Burke, while picking up her second shutout this season and seventh of her career, made just three saves. The Greyhounds held a slim 6-4 advantage in shots in the defense-dominated game and also held the advantage in penalty corners (9-5). The Greyhounds will host non-conference opponent L.I.U.-C.W. Post SUNDAY at 1 p.m.
