Mike Baillargeon keys 18-hit attack as seven Greyhounds have multiple-hit games in 11-8 Northeast-10 Conference win over UMass Lowell

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior second baseman MIKE BAILLARGEON (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) stroked a single, double and a three-run triple to lead Assumption College baseball past the University of Massachusetts Lowell, 11-8, in a Northeast-10 Conference game MONDAY at H.L. Rocheleau ‘24 Field.
The Greyhounds stroked 18 hits off three River Hawks' pitchers with seven different players getting at least two. Sophomore catcher MATTHEW JOSE (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) had three hits and sophomore shortstop CHRIS COLLETTI (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) added two hits with three RBI.
Freshman leftfielder WALLY DESROSIER (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), sophomore centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer), senior first baseman DEVIN MURPHY (Waterbury, CT/Holy Cross) and junior rightfielder STEVE SCANNELL (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) also had two hits each.
Sophomore lefthander MICHAEL COLEBROOK (Leicester, MA/Saint John's) picked up the victory (2-1) scattering seven hits over six innings with three strikeouts.
The River Hawks moved to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as freshman second baseman SEAN BURNS (Colchester, VT/Colchester) led with a single and scored on sophomore shortstop PETER WOLSTENHOLME (Fall River, MA/Durfee) RBI double up the gap in leftcenter.
The Hounds then erupted for four runs in the second inning off River Hawk starter, senior JAMES MURPHY (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) (0-4). Migrants led with an 0-2 single to right and Murphy coaxed the first of his three bases on balls. Colletti then singled through the box for one run and Desrosier reached on a bunt dodwn the third base line to load the bases. Baillargeon then hammered a 1-1 pitch off the leftfield fence for three runs.
In the top of the fifth inning Burns singled across a run to cut the deficit in half, 4-2, before the Hounds pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the inning.
A sacrifice fly by Colletti, RBI single by Derosier and an RBI double by Baillargeon provided the offense for the Greyhounds as they built a 7-2 advantage.
A bases-loaded hitsbatsman by freshman leftfielder FELIX MARTINEZ (Miami, FL/Miami Senior)---one of three in the game for him---plated a run for the River Hawks in the sixth and an RBI single by Murphy matched it for the Greyhounds in the bottom of the sixth.
The River Hawks scored three runs in the ninth inning before running into an out at third base to end the game.
The Greyhounds, now 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference are at Pace University in another conference game TUESDAY at 3:30 p.m. UMass Lowell is now 3-12 and 0-1 in the conference and plays at conference rival Bentley College TUESDAY at 3:30.
