ASSUMPTION 8, BENTLEY 6
WALTHAM, Mass. --- Freshman leftfielder JOSH DUFRESNE (Auburn, MA/Auburn) broke a 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the seventh and sophomores ANDREW QUINN (Taunton, MA/Coyle Cassidy) and TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield) combined to pitch one-hit shutout relief as Assumption College went on to defeat Bentley College, 8-6, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball here THURSDAY. The Greyhounds are now 16-25 overall and 8-18 in the conference, while the Falcons are 17-24 overall and 12-13 in the conference. Junior third baseman MIKE DIREDA (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) led off the top of the seventh with a walk and senior first baseman DEVIN MURPHY (Waterbury, CT/Holy Cross) followed with a bunt single. After a sacrifice by senior catcher CHRIS DESIMONE (Warwick, RI/Hendricken), Dufresne singled to center, scoring DiReda with the go-ahead run. Junior second baseman MIKE BAILLARGEON (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) (PICTURED RIGHT) added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly. Quinn and DuPuis stopped the Falcons' offense---which had 12 hits over the first six innings---yielding only a double by junior designated hitter KEVIN VONA (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and a walk over the last three innings. Dupuis' 1-2-3 ninth inning netted him his fourth save of the season. Sophomore centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) doubled with two outs and scored on an error to give the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. An RBI single by freshman outfielder JAMES ROCHE (Arlington, MA/Arlington) and an RBI double by CHARLIE PAGLIARULO (Medford, MA/Medford) put the Falcons up 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. DiReda and Desimone singled across runs in the third for the Greyhounds, while Bentley College countered with a two-run triple by sophomore outfielder BRETT DAMATO (Commack, NY/Commack) to make it 4-3 Falcons after three innings. Migrants (RBI single), junior rightfielder JEFF BARBALE (Charlton, MA/St. Peter-Marian) (RBI triple) and DiReda (RBI single) put the Greyhounds in command 6-4 in the fourth inning however the Falcons pushed across single runs in the fourth inning (on an error) and fifth inning as freshman leftfielder CHRIS HARDY (Warwick, RI/Hendricken) hit a solo homer (his second of the season) to forge a 6-6 tie. Baillargeon and Migrants each finished with three hits for the Greyhounds to lead a 14-hit attack. Barbale, DiReda and Desimone each added two hits.
