Charde Floyd double-double leads Greyhound women past Molloy, 70-52

December 29, 2006

ROCKVILLE CENTER --- Junior forward CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) was the dominant player with 22 points and 15 rebounds while leading Assumption College women's basketball past Molloy, NY, 70-52, FRIDAY night at the Quealy Gym.

While posting her fourth double-double this season and 19th in her career Floyd became the 12th Greyhound to pass 600 rebounds in her career. She now has 613 rebounds (11th place) just 21 behind Carol Krupa's (1981-85) 634 for 10th place.

Molloy, now 5-6 overall, was paced by RANDI BENDER who poured in a season-high 26 points.

The Greyhounds however used another part of their game to move to a 26 15 halftime advantage . . . defense. Molloy made just six-of-28 attempts from the floor and a paltry 1-for-10 from behind the arc. Floyd had nine points and senior point guard JESS PAULSON (North Providence, RI/LaSalle Academy) added eight points to lead the offense.

With scored tied at 11-11 the Greyhounds finished the half on a 15-4 spurt to assume control. Sophomore guard BETH PLASSKI (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) made a layup, freshman guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock) converted two free throws and Floyd scored twice inside, once on a conventional three point play to make it 20-13. LISA ABITANTE hit a jumper in the mini-surge for Molloy.

After BETSY BORDES converted a layin, Paulson made nifty move inside, Floyd buried two foul shots and Paulson connected on another layin at the buzzer to make it an 11-point cushion.

A 14-4 run to open the second half opened the margin to 21 points at 40-19.

Floyd had seven points in the uprising and Plasski drilled a long three-pointer --her fourth straight from behind the arc---to complete the run.

Plasski finished with 14 points while Paulson (10 points, 4 assists) and Lupien (10 points, 3 assists) played well in support roles.

The Greyhounds, now 4-6 overall, get back to their Northeast-10 Conference schedule Wednesday (January 3, 2007) hosting Pace University at the Laska Gym at 5:30 p.m.
