Beth Plasski scores career-high 29 points to lead Greyhound women's hoop past Southern New Hampshire, 68-59February 3, 2007MANCHESTER, NH - Sophomore guard BETH PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) scored 20 of her career-high 29 points in the second half to lead Assumption College past Southern New Hampshire University, 68 59, SATURDAY in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action.
The Greyhounds improved to 9-13 overall and 7-11 in the league, while the Penmen dropped to 5-17 overall and 3-15 in the NE-10. Sophomore guard ALYSSA WHITNEY paced the Penmen, as she scored 13 points and equaled her career-high for rebounds with eight. Freshman forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) played well in support role with 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) scored eight points and equaled her career-high for rebounds with 17. The Greyhounds won the battle of the boards, 42-34, with an amazing 20-5 edge (seven by Floyd) on their offensive glass. Assumption held a 29-25 lead at the break, but Southern New Hampshire scored the first five points of the second half to take its only lead of the second half, 30-29, following a jumper by Whitney with 17:16 left. The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes and the Greyhounds held a 40-37 lead when they took control with an 11-0 run. Parker converted an inside feed from freshman guard AMANDA SHEEHY (Linden, NJ/Roselle Park) and Plasski converted an offensive rebound to start the flurry. Plasski then hit a long three-pointer from the top of-the-circle off a turnover and junior guard BRITT BISHOP (Mendon, MA/Nipmuc) drilled a lane jumper. Two free throws by Sheehy put the Greyhounds in command at 51-37. Assumption outscored the Penmen 16-8 over the first seven minutes of the game, before SNHU answered with a 7-2 run and cut the lead to three points, 18-15, following a three-pointer by freshman guard SAMANTHA ALLEN with 7:59 left before halftime. The Greyhounds regained a 24-15 lead after Parker made a pair of free throws with 5:23 left in the half. Assumption travels to the University of Bridgeport for a non conference game TUESDAY at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire returns to action WEDNESDAY hosting Saint Rose conference game.
