The men played to a 0-0 overtime tie at the Multi-Sport Stadium as Hounds' senior goalie BRETT MILLER (Franklin, MA/TriCounty) made five saves recording his fourth career shutout, while UMass Lowell netminder RYAN RICHARDS (Holden, MA/Wachusett) made two saves for his third shutout of the season---scoreless ties with Bryant and Franklin Pierce.
The Greyhounds are now 0-8-1 and 0-5-1, while UMass Lowell is now 2-2-3 and 0-1-3.
Meanwhile at Lowell, the women's teams played to a 0-0 overtime tie ---the fifth straight game with the Greyhounds---including two last year---in which they have not scored dating back to the 2003 season. Assumption defeated the River Hawks 1-0 in the N.C.A.A. New England regional semifinal last year, 1-0.
UMass Lowell, now 5-1-3, is ranked No. 15 in the latest NCSCAA national poll and No. 2 in the regional poll. The Greyhounds, ranked No. 8 in the regional poll, are now 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-3 in the conference.
For the Greyhounds junior goalkeeper LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett) made eight saves recorded her second shutout this season while extending her career mark for the Hounds to an amazing 25. She is also among the conference leaders with a 0.86 goals-against average.
The River Hawks JAMIE GILLIS (North Billerica, MA/North Billerica)---has allowed just four goals all season and lowered her Northeast-10 Conference leading goals-against average to 0.41. This was her fifth shutout of the season.
Massachusetts Lowell nearly went ahead in the eighth minute when senior forward TRICIA AULD (Waltham, MA/Waltham) sent a blast from the right side of the goal box which Matysiak tipped over the crossbar. Senior forward KRISTIN MAHONEY (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport) had an opportunity in the 53rd minute when her attempt from the top of the box soared just outside the right post.
The best chance of the night belong to the Greyhounds in the 82nd minute as senior forward HOLLY MC GRATH (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) broke through the River Hawks defense and uncorked a shot which Gillis tipped off the crossbar and gathered before any rebound.
The Greyhound men host Stonehill SATURDAY at 1 p.m., while the women are at LeMoyne also at 1 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference games. UMass Lowell women host Saint Anselm SATURDAY at 12 noon, the men host American International College at 3 p.m.
