MEN WIN FIRST BEHIND BRETT MILLER, JOE DRAIN (1-0)
WOMEN STOPPED BY STREAKING LEMOYNE (2-0)
Senior goalie BRETT MILLER (Franklin, MA/Tri County) recorded four saves in net to post his second straight shutout leading the Assumption College men's soccer team past Stonehill College, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at the Multi-Sports Stadium.
Junior forward JOE DRAIN (Milton, MA/Milton) scored an unassisted goal at 50:50 of the second half to provide the only offense for the Greyhounds. Assumption has now tied and won its last two games at home (0-0 overtime tie with UMass Lowell Wednesday) after struggling to an 0-8 mark.
The Greyhounds outshot the Skyhawks (12-10) while each team had three corner kicks.
Stonehill is now 5-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference and have been shut out in their last two matches (5-0 at Southern Connecticut, Wednesday).
Meanwhile, in Syracuse the women's team continued its offensive struggles dropping a 2-0 decision to streaking LeMoyne, now 6-2 overall after its third straight win. The Dolphins scored in the first minute of the game --- just 17 seconds into the game freshman CHRISTINA HARRISON (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) redirected a crossing pass from freshman MEGAN O'SHEA (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa).
O'Shea scored an insurance goal in the 84th minute on a rebound off a straight on shot senior forward NICOLE BENTON's (Gloversville, NY/Amsterdam) straight-on shot.
The Greyhounds are now 3-4-3 overall, 2-3-3 in the conference. The team has scored just two goals---both in a 2-0 win over American International---in its last five games.
LeMoyne sophomore goalkeeper AMANDA ABBATIELLO (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) made three saves to post her second straight shutout. Greyhounds junior goalie LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett) also made four saves. Assumption outshot the hosts 12-9 and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Assumption women are on an eight-day hiatus and plays next hosting ranked Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Rose, Sunday, October 1 (2 p.m.). LeMoyne travels to Bryant TUESDAY at 3 p.m.
The men are at conference rival Merrimack WEDNESDAY at 7 p.m., while Stonehill hosts Post, CT WEDNESDAY at 4 p.m.
