Neil Donnelly goal lifts Hounds men's lacrosse past NE-10 rival Bentley, 7-6, in second overtimeMarch 28, 2007
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior attack NEIL DONNELLY (Boylston, MA/St. John's) scored his second goal of the game (and third of the season) 2:01 into the second overtime as Assumption College defeated Bentley College, 7-6, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse game here WEDNESDAY night. After a clear with 3:02 remaining in the period the Greyhounds called timeout to set up the final assault. A shot by sophomore midfielder MIKE MOLK (Danvers, MA/Danvers) was wide however Donnelly converted the rebound off a pass from freshman attack KEVIN KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) just 16 seconds later. Greyhounds junior goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD (North Andover, MA/St. John's Prep) made 17 saves in superb effort over 65:59. Sophomore goalie KRIS DAMBACH made 12 saves for Bentley. The Greyhounds are now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Bentley falls to 2-2, 1-1. The Greyhounds led 6-4 after junior midfielder MATT KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) scored an unassisted goal with 9:38 remaining in regulation. The Falcons however would score two goals in the final 4:00, the game-tying goal coming with just 32 seconds left.
Freshman attack KEVIN GOULD scored his sixth goal of the season on an assist from senior midfielder DALTON VAN HATCHER with 4:00 left and then sophomore attack CHRIS WOODS netted his fifth with just 32 seconds left. Woods had a key ground ball pickup with 46 seconds left as the Greyhounds failed to clear their end. After a scoreless first period the Greyhounds socred two even-up goals in the second period to move to a 2-1 halftime advantage. Bentley senior attack BOB CATALA opened the scoring at 14:51. Hounds senior midfielder PETER REYNOLDS (Hamden, CT/Hamden) scored less than three minutes later and Matt Klaskin scored his first of the game with 2:52 left to put the Hounds in front. Molk scored just six seconds into the third period in a man-up situation on a nice feed from Kevin Klaskin. The teams then traded three-goal outbursts en route to a 6-4 advantage for the Greyhounds. Gould scored for the Falcons and DALTON VAN HATCHER added a pair, the second on a man-up situation, to move Bentley in front, 4-3. Then in succession Donnelly, Molk (man-up) and Matt Klaskin put the Hounds in command 6-4. The Greyhounds are at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm SATURDAY at 1 p.m.
