Atte Uola leads Ice Dogs past Franklin Pierce, 6-3

WINCHENDON, Mass. --- Freshman forward ATTE UOLA (Turku, Finland/Holderness) had a goal and two assists to lead Assumption College past Franklin Pierce College, 6-3, in ice hockey action SATURDAY night at the Winchendon School Rink.

The Greyhounds got a solid performance in goal from sophomore CASEY MCNALLY (Lunenburg, MA/Lunenburg) making his first career start. McNally, although allowing two goals in the first four minutes settled down to make 37 saves for the win.

Assumption would outscore the host Ravens 5-1 over the final two periods to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win with McNally making 25 saves on 26 shots.

Franklin Pierce got the board as BRIAN DEL SAVIO scored just 10 seconds into the game. He would score another, this time on the power play, at 4:04---his 10th goal of the season--- to give the Ravens a quick 2-0 advantage.

Senior defenseman DAN SURETTE (Woburn, MA/Woburn) got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard at 15:59 of the period on a power-play goal- -his third goal of the season---assisted by freshman right wing JAMES CAPULLI (Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton) and junior left wing JOHN ROUTHIER (Malden, MA/Malden Catholic).

The Ravens COURSEN SCHNEIDER scored his fifth goal at 8:57 of the second period to give the hosts a 3-1 lead. The Greyhounds would then scored three straight in the second period to lead, 4-3, entering the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore defenseman CHRIS GENOVESE (Woburn, MA/The Governor's School) scored his second of the season on the power play at 13;16 as Uola found him front for a quick wrist shot. Three minutes later freshman defenseman TIM DUPUIS (West Suffield, CT/Suffield) scored his first career goal on a rebound of a shot by junior defender RANDY MORIN (Auburn, ME/Little)---also on the power play, to tie the game at 3-3.

And, Uola then scored the game-winner, a shorthanded goal on a brilliant individual effort with 25 seconds left in the period, to put the Greyhounds in front 4-3.

Junior left wing JIM TRAHON (Needham, MA/Needham/Salisbury School) scored his third goal of the season on a nice feed from Uola at 16:55 and Routhier added an empty netter insurance goal at 17:37.

The Greyhounds are now 4-14 overall and play at Johnson & Wales TUESDAY at Rhode Island Sports Center in Smithfield, RI at 6. Franklin Pierce is now 4-11-2.
