Tyler Johnson leads Hounds 5th place finish in ECAC golf

SYRACUSE, NY --- Sophomore captain TYLER JOHNSON set the Assumption College record for lowest two-day total and fired two of the lowest medal scores in Greyhounds history leading his team to a fifth-place finish in the E.C.A.C. Division II golf championship this weekend at Drumlins Golf Course.
Johnson had a first-round 72 and followed with a one-under second-round 70 in posting a two-day total of 142 (even par on the 6,213 yard course) four strokes behind individual medalist Lloyd Notely of Post University (Waterbury, CT) (67-71--138). Bryant's Mike Phillips and Pace's Dan Psinakis finished tied third with 72-73--145.
The Greyhounds finished with a 300-306--606 total. Post won the team championship (291-304--595) followed by Pace (298-303--601), Bryant (302-300--602) and host LeMoyne (299-305--604).
Other individual Greyhound scores included: sophomore captain ROB YOUNKER (Waltham, MA/Waltham) (77-77--154), sophomore captain JAMIE FARREA (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) (75-80--155), senior PAT HUBLEY (Auburn, MA/Millbury) (76-79--155) and freshman TYLER CLEARY (Newington, CT/Newington) (85-83--168)
In the long history of the sport at the College only Brian Jerome '72 has had a better round---Jerome fired a 69 at the Nichols College Golf Course (Dudley, MA) on May 12, 1970. Chris Cowell '05 shot a 70 at Canterbury Woods Country Club (Canterbury, NH) on October 4, 2004 and Johnson had another 70 earlier this year at the Long Island National Golf Course (Riverhead, NY). He is the only golfer in Hounds' history with two rounds of 70 (both this year).
His two-day total of 142 broke the previous two-day record by Johnson at Long Island National (September 16-17) (70-75--145) and former captain Jeff Furtado '06 (72-73--145) at the Northeast-10 Conference championships (September 25-26, 2005) at the Sunset Ridge Country Club in Marcellus, NY.
The Greyhounds are next in action Thursday, October 12 at the Saint Anselm Invitational at Candia Woods Country Club (Manchester, NH).
