Migrants RBI double in 12th inning delivers 2-1 Northeast-10 baseball win over Pace

April 1, 2007

PLEASANTVILLE, NY --- Freshman outfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) doubled home sophomore MIKE BAILLARGEON (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) with the game-winner in the 12th inning as Assumption College defeated Pace University, 2-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference baseball game here SUNDAY at Finnerty Field.

Pitching was the name of this game as junior righthander DAN SARGENT (Lowell, MA/Lowell) (PHOTO TOP RIGHT) pitched five-hit ball into the eighth inning, freshman righthander TIM DUPUIS (West Suffield, CT/Suffield) (PHOTO MIDDLE RIGHT) hurled four-hit shutout relief into the 11th inning and another freshman, righthander ANDREW QUINN (Taunton, MA/Coyle & Cassidy), (PHOTO BOTTOM RIGHT) picked up the win (he's now 3-2) with 1.2 innings of solid shutout relief.

The Setters' pitching was almost as good . . . as both sophomore righthander ZACH DRAYTON (5.2 innings) and freshman righty FRANK LUONGO (6.0 innings) were effective.

Pace, which had swept the Greyhounds 5-2 and 16-5 Saturday at Rocheleau Field, is now 11-13 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Greyhounds are now 10-9 overall---already matching last year's total season win total---and 2-5 in the conference.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the fifth inning as freshman shortstop MATTHEW JOSE (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) led with a single to leftfield and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by junior BRIAN QUAGLIERI (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's). Sophomore STEVE SCANNELL (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) advanced Jose to third with a ground single to left and then stole second base. An infielder grounder by Baillargeon plated the first run.

A sacrifice fly by the Setters MATT RIGOLI in the seventh inning scored ANDRE LISCINSKY with the game-tying run setting the stage for both bullpens to excel. Dupuis induced Pace clean-up hitter MATT ARBURR to ground to third baseman MIKE DIREDA (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's) to end the inning.

The Setters threatened in the ninth as JOE BARRACATO doubled with one out however Dupuis fanned VINNY DAMMAN and induced CHRIS SPATKOWSKI to tap back to the mound to end the inning. In the 10th inning he got Arburr to fly harmlessly to centerfield to leave two runners in scoring position. Quinn retired two batters in relief of Dupuis in the 11th with two runners in scoring position.

In the top of the 12th inning Baillargeon walked with two outs and Migrants doubled down the rightfield line for the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the inning Quinn retired MATT RIGOLI on an infielder roller to end it with a runner at second base.

Migrants, Jose and Quaglieri each had two hits in the Greyhounds offense.

The Hounds are at conference rival Southern Connecticut Tuesday at 3. Pace return to action on Monday hosting Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at 1.
