Athletic Department Announces Logo Redesign

Worcester, Mass. (July 1) -- The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced a redesign of the Assumption Athletics logo as part of a branding and marketing initiative beginning in the 2013-2014 season. Assumption partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logo.

“I am excited for this announcement of our new graphic identity program, which I think is both a modern look and something that still fits within the Assumption College tradition,” said Nick Smith, director of athletics. “I think our new family of logos will be well-received by our alumni, fans, Assumption community and most importantly, our student-athletes.”

With the department using a number of logos and color schemes over the years, this branding initiative and logo redesign will help standardize the logos that are used by teams and also help promote a consistent look amongst the College’s 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The new logos are a reflection of comments by coaches, staff and student-athletes who participated in the process of reviewing the branding and logos used in the Department of Athletics.

The project includes a new primary athletics logo, a secondary logo, a primary wordmark, a primary lettermark and a number of sport-specific logos for each team and athletic department support area.

“Phoenix Design Works is proud to have created the new branding program for the Assumption Greyhounds,” said Amy Skiles, SVP for Business Development/Client Service at Phoenix Design Works. “Working with AD Nick Smith, Peter Gardula, Bethany Ellis, Ken Johnson, and the Assumption Branding Committee has been both an honor and a privilege. Everyone at Assumption has been so smart, thoughtful, and creative throughout the course of developing the new branding program, they have made the process an absolute joy to achieve. We believe we have helped Nick and the Greyhounds realize their vision for the department, and we are eager to see the new branding implemented to manifest that vision. We extend our gratitude and thanks to Nick, Ken, and all of our friends at Assumption for letting us be part of their team, and making a little bit of Greyhounds history - Go Hounds!”

Throughout the remainder of the summer, the new logo will begin to appear at a number of athletic department facilities and will eventually replace the former “A-Dog” logo which has been used in some form for over a decade.

“Working with Amy Skiles and everyone at Phoenix Design Works, has been a pleasure throughout this important process,” said Ken Johnson, Jr., assistant director of athletics for communications. “They listened to our needs, they carefully considered what we were looking for as a department and I am very pleased with the end product.”
