Munsey Named as Tennis Head Coach
Worcester, Mass. (January 2) -- Dan Munsey has been named as the men’s and women’s tennis head coach at Assumption College, as announced by Nick Smith, director of athletics.
“We are excited to have Dan join our tennis programs as the head coach,” said Smith. “I believe we have the potential to significantly improve these two programs and I am confident that Dan will help us reach a high level of success. He is committed to our goal of excellence on the courts, in the classroom and in the community and I know he is eager to get started.”
Munsey comes to Assumption from nearby Clark University, where he served as the women’s tennis head coach during the fall 2012 season. At Clark, he guided the Cougars to the program’s highest win total since the 1991-92 season.
"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to lead both the men's and women's tennis programs at Assumption College,” said Munsey. “We will strive to set a standard of excellence both on the court and in the classroom, and I can't wait to get to work with our student-athletes."
Prior to his time at Clark, Munsey served as the women’s tennis head coach at Mount Ida College for the 2011-12 season, guiding the Mustangs to a 7-7 overall record and qualified to the GNAC Conference Championship. Munsey’s earlier collegiate coaching experience includes serving as the women’s tennis assistant coach at Wellesley College and working as the men’s and women’s tennis assistant coach at Division I Wright State University from November 2008 to May 2010.
Munsey began his coaching career at Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he guided the team to a 17-0 record and the New Hampshire Class I State Championship in 2007-2008.
He graduated from Colby-Sawyer College (N.H.), where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in sport management in 2007. Munsey also had a minor in business administration and was a member of the exercise sports and science club at Colby-Sawyer.
A four-year varsity tennis letter winner at Colby-Sawyer, Munsey was a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Conference selection, a two-time team captain and team MVP and ranks third all-time in career victories. He also worked as an assistant coach for the Chargers during the 2007-2008 season.
