Ted Paulauskas, a Hall of Fame basketball player for the Greyhounds and later coach is in his fifth year as Director of Athletics---the first alum to serve in that capacity in 49 years. A Worcester area native, he was a standout student-athlete at St. John's High before earning all-New England honors three straight years for the Greyhounds. His first game with the Greyhounds was memorable---the dedication game for the new gym and a win over nationally ranked Providence College. He was M.V.P. in two Worcester JayCee Holiday Tournaments and finished his playing career in the New England All-Star Game. His teams posted an overall record of 70-19 qualifying for four N.C.A.A. regionals. He began his career as coach at Fitchburg High (1967-69) and after two years in Special Services at the U.S. Military Academy returned to the College as an assistant under Joe O'Brien, tennis coach and cross country coach. He then spent a year as an assistant at Dartmouth (1973-74) before beginning his 25-year association with Saint Anselm. He served as basketball coach, golf coach and Director of Athletics (1974-99). Under his guidance, Saint Anselm experienced growth in its program and developed facilities regarded as among the finest in the region. He was responsible for the introduction of all women's sports programs and summer camps. His experience has landed him numerous committee assignments with the N.C.A.A., the E.C.A.C. and the Northeast-10 Conference. He has always sought out and served in any capacity that helps to enhance the student-athlete experience while in college. His main goal with the Hounds has been the same, put the athletics teams at the College in a position to win, enhance the individual experience and ensure that all graduate in four years. He is also a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame Committee and the Assumption College Alumni Board of Directors. He is a participating member of the National Association of College Athletics Director (NACDA) and has been elected to three Hall of Fames at St. John's High, Assumption College and Saint Anselm College. He received a Bachelors (History/Education) from Assumption College in 1967 and later a Master in Psychology and Counseling in 1974. . |
