Ken Johnson, Jr. enters his third year as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications at Assumption in 2013-14. Johnson came to Assumption from Saint Anselm College (N.H.), where he served as the Director of Athletic Communications for six years. Prior to Saint Anselm, Johnson served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and Compliance at the University of Bridgeport (Conn.).
In his role at Assumption, Johnson is responsible for the execution of a comprehensive promotional effort for each of the College's 23 intercollegiate athletic programs. He has further developed the department's presence thru the use of social media, the department's web site and the promotion of the student-athletes to a variety of local and regional media outlets. As part of the improvements in athletic communciations, Johnson oversaw a complete redesign of the athletic department's web site, www.AssumptionGreyhounds.com. He has also worked to develop an undergraduate internship program thru the College's business department, with the program beginning in the fall of 2012.
During his tenure at Saint Anselm, Johnson was responsible for the media relations operation for the college's 20 intercollegiate athletic teams. This included managing the athletic department web site, producing press releases and game stories, compiling statistics for all home contests and assisting in home game management for over 200 events per season. Johnson also redesigned the Saint Anselm athletic department web site and developed SaintAnselmHawks.tv, in conjunction with the Pack Network, for the broadcast of all home football, basketball and ice hockey games.
In addition to his duties at Assumption, Johnson is involved in a number of professional organizations and committees in college athletics. He is an active member of CoSIDA and ECAC-SIDA, the professional organizations for SID's nationwide. Most recently, Johnson worked as part of the local organizing committee that helped present the 2013 ECAC-SIDA Workshop in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was also honored with the 15-Year Service Award for his time in the athletic communications profession.
A number of his media guides have been recognized nationally, including his 2006-2007 Saint Anselm men's basketball media guide that was voted as the No. 2 guide in the country in the CoSIDA Publications Contest and his 2007-2008 Saint Anselm men's basketball guide that was voted third in the nation.
Johnson is a past member of the NCAA Division II Golf Regional Advisory Committee, the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Northeast Region Poll Committee and the NCAA Division II Baseball Northeast Regional Advisory Committee.
Johnson also served as the chairperson of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Northeast Region Men's Soccer All-American Committee for two years, as well as the regional chairperson of the Daktronics Volleyball and Women's Soccer National All-American Committees.
An avid golfer and runner, Johnson has completed three marathons, including most recently the 2006 Cape Cod Marathon. A 1999 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Johnson has a bachelor of science degree in sport management and currently resides in Worcester, Mass.
