Joi Irby, the co-Director of Recruiting at the University at Albany, was named the Associate Athletics Director/Senior Women's Administrator in May 2007. In her previous position at Albany she was responsible for all commencement volunteer organizational needs. She also served as an Athletics Graduate Assistant helping in the academic advisement of student-athletes as well as coordinating all athletics academic tutors. From 2004-06 she was an assistant basketball coach with the women's program under head coach Trina Patterson. She also coordinated and directed the summer camp. She began her professional career as an assistant coach at Virginia State University in 2003-04. Irby played collegiate basketball at Georgetown University for Coach Pat Knapp. The Hoyas played in three National Invitational Tournaments during her career. She was also a three-year captain and Virginia Top-50 Player at Hermitage High School (Richmond, VA). She is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, Black Coaches Association, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the YMCA Board of Managers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (minoring in Theology) from Georgetown (2003) and a Master of Science from the University at Albany in Education Administration and Policy Studies with a concentration in higher education (2007). |
