SHEILA BURNS '81

Field Hockey

The second-leading scorer in the College's field hockey history SHEILA BURNS is one of a rare group of two-sport captains . . . captaining both the basketball and field hockey teams in 1981.

She was named the winner of the William Cating Memorial Award in 1980 presented to the student-athlete deemed 'most coachable,' and was awarded the Rev. Armand Desautels, A.A. Memorial Award in 1981 as the premier female senior student-athlete.

Statistically, she scored 31 goals and assisted on 20 others for 82 career points, second on the career list, while playing for Coaches Rita Castagna (1977, 78) and Kathy Gibbons (1979, 80). She was named the team Most Valuable Player in 1981. She still holds the individual record for most assists in a game (4) vs. Clark University (11/1/78) and assists in a career (20)

She also played four years of basketball as a reserve point guard for Coach Rita Castagna and one year of softball (also for Castagna), batting .324.

She is currently Vice-President of Human Resource Management Consultants in Salem, New Hampshire. She is married to Kevin Barry and they reside in Wakefield, Massachusetts with a son Kevin and daughter Maura.
