SHARON BRAIER '83

Field Hockey, Softball, Basketball

One of the last of a rare breed of three-sport athletes at the College SHARON BRAIER was a standout catcher for the first tournament softball team, held all goalkeeping records for field hockey and also was a top reserve on the basketball team.

The softball program grew from a casual 10-game schedule to a E.C.A.C. tournament 21-5 team in her four years under Coach Rita Castagna. She owns an impressive .382 career batting average . . . hitting .406 as a freshman and a healthy .459 as a sophomore, while leading the team (11-4) to its first post-season berth . . . the M.A.I.A.W. state tournament in 1981. She batted .381 as a senior as the team won 20 games for the first time and advanced to the E.C.A.C. tournament.

In field hockey, she posted a 29-24 won-loss record in her 62-game career with 1.57 goals- against average and 16 shutouts. The team (11-4-2) advanced to the sports first post-season berth in 1980 . . . . the M.A.I.A.W. state tournament . . .with a then team-record 11 wins. She set the Hounds' standard for lowest goals against average (1.06) with four shutouts in 1980.

Her field hockey goalie records stood until just this week as senior Michelle Daley '99 (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) . . . also an all-conference catcher for the Hounds' N.C.A.A. softball team . . . broke the win record (now 31-11) and shutout record (17).

In basketball, she averaged 2.6 points-per-game as a reserve point guard (also for Coach Castagna) where she finished her career in the Northeast-8 Conference playoffs and the M.A.I.A.W. State Tournament. She also played in the first three Worcester Tournaments and the Loyola, MD Tournament in 1982 . . . where fellow inductee Tom O'Connor '68 served as Director of Athletics.

She is currently living in Peabody, MA with two sons Brad and Corey and is the owner/President of St. Martin Associates, a graphic design/printing firm in Peabody.
