JANE M. MULLIGAN '75

Basketball, Tennis

One of true pioneer female athletes in the history of the College, JANE MULLIGAN played on the first basketball and tennis teams in the College's history. But, she was more than just a member of the team... starting at off-guard and leading the basketball team in scoring for three straight years and playing at No. 1 singles for the tennis team.

Mulligan averaged 15.7 points-per-game as a first-year performer for Coach Ruth Linden, a remarkable accomplishment since the team averaged just 38 points. She averaged 15.4 points-per-game as a second-year player for Coach Rita Castagna as the team averaged just 39 points.

"The true contribution of an athlete in those days can never be fully realized," said Castagna, her coach from 1973-75. "The women played in relative anonymity against some pretty big odds. She is one of the reasons that the solid foundation of the 70s became the program of the 80s and 90s."

An outstanding student as well, she was awarded a student-athlete award at the annual awards banquet in 1975.
