Basketball

The ultimate "glitter player" of his time for the Greyhounds, DAVE HANKINS,after spending a year at the University of Delaware, transferred to Assumption College and earned all-American status and became the fastest 1,000-point scorer (54 games) in Greyhounds' history.

He finished as the third-leading scorer in Greyhounds history at 1,677 points however owns the second-highest points-per-game average (21.1). He played 22 games fewer than any other 1,500-point producer in the College's history.

Hankins set the Hounds' record for points in a game on-the-road with 46 in a brilliant effort at Sacred Heart (2/25/80), most points in consecutive games (80) vs. Sacred Heart (46) and Bryant (34).

He was named Division II all-New England in his junior and senior years, ws named District I, Division II all-star in his junior and senior years and was named honorable mention all-America by both the Associated Press and United Press Int'l. in 1978-79.


He was accorded National Association of Basketball Coaches second-team, U.P.I. first-team, A.P. Honorable Mention, and Converse Second-Team all-America honors in 1979-80.

He is the only Assumption College player to lead New England Division II in scoring (25.3 in 1979-80) and played in the New England All-Star Game in 1980. He averaged 15.6 points in 1977-78 and 20.9 points per game in 1978-79. He is one of the few guards of his era to shoot over .500 from the floor for his career (.549) . . . eclipsing the .500 mark three straight years (.539, .548, .554). He is also among the career free throw leaders (.751).

He is married to the former Vanessa Clark and they reside in Howell, NJ with daughter Jenna. He is a United Jersey Bank Vice-President.
