BRO. ARMAND G. LEMAIRE '48

Special Contributions

Brother Armand G. Lemaire, A.A. '48 took his perpetual vows with the Augustinians of the Assumption in 1950, and served in a variety of capacities before and after nearly 40 years as the College's assistant treasurer. He has also served the Assumptionist order as assistant to the provincial treasurer of the North American Province. He has served the Assumptionist order and the College at various capacities over the years, and his duties sometimes took him to Rome, Canada, Austria, France, Israel and England.

Bro. Armand semi-retired in the late '80s and has since served as the College's special ambassador for Alumni Relations.

During nearly 60 years with the College, Bro. Armand has also been the Athletics Department's most ardent cheerleader. He is a most welcomed sight sitting in the bleachers in the Laska Gymnasium and standing on the sidelines at outdoor contests. He has befriended more athletes and students throughout the years than any other staff member. The number of Christmas cards and personal notes he receives yearly from alumni is sincerely heartwarming.

Bro. Armand was at the College (then at its West Boylston Street address in the Greendale section of Worcester) when the '53 tornado hit, which devastated the campus and took the lives of three religious. He has seen the campus through all of its growth. He is the Alumni Association's trusted, unofficial historian, and has scores of interesting stories to tell.

Originally from Fall River, MA, he attended Durfee High School before coming to Assumption in 1943 and beginning with a year of preparatory classes.

He resides with fellow Assumptionists on Old English Road, just off campus. His sister, Corinne Demers, resides in Rehoboth, MA; brother Gilbert resides in Fall River; and nephews Henry '70 and Charles Demers '72 also graduated from the College.
