ARMAND E. CYR '34

Long remembered as one of the premier student-athletes of his day, ARMAND CYR was a standout baseball and basketball player at the College. Cyr is also a member of the large Cyr family, many of whom also wore the Blue and White of the College.
He played guard for the Greyhound basketball team for Coaches Albert (Hop) Riopel and Armand (Bucky) Richard. He was known on offense for his long set shots (in the days of the center jump after each basket) and was considered the finest defensive player on the squad. He captained the team in both his junior and senior seasons and started as the team point guard. He averaged 5.1 points in 1932-33 and 4.6 points in 1933-34.
He played two years of baseball for Coach Art Gelinas in 1933 and 1934. He led the team in 1933 with a .448 batting average with 12 RBI in the eight-game schedule (winning the team triple crown). In 1934 he batted .317 with 13 RBI in 11 games. He his the second grand slam home run in Hounds history against American International College (5/20/33).
He was graduated summa cum laude and served as pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in his native Caribou, Maine for many years.
