Ann Marie Gibbons is one of the premier pitchers in Greyhounds' softball history---the career leader in E.R.A. (1.13) and the first to win over 50 games (54 24). She played from 1986-89 for Coaches Brian Kelly, now the head football coach at Grand Valley State, Kim Hoffman and Brent Vigness.
She was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player-of-the-Year in 1989 and earned first-team all-conference honors five times in three years---at both pitcher and designated hitter. She was Most Valuable Player and captain in 1989 and played in the New England All-Star game.
She won the William Cating Memorial Award for coachability as a sophomore in 1987.
She was the first 20-game winner, fashioning a 21-7 mark in 1989 with a glossy 0.79 earned run average . . . opponents hit a meager .215 against her career offerings. She started 87 games (4th), finished 63 (3rd), pitching 544.1 innings (4th) and struck out 237 (3rd) . . . and owned a career batting average of .310 with 102 career hits---she batted .412 as a senior with 25 RBI.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Elementary Education in 1989 and did graduate work at Bristol Community College (Fall River, MA) receiving an Associate of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1999 (with highest honors). She has also served as an assistant softball coach at Brown Univeristy (1994-97) and Stonehill College (1997-99).
She is currently a classroom teacher for the Shore Shore Educational Collaborative in Hingham, MA. She resides in nearby Middleboro, MA.
