FOOTBALL DEFEATS NEW HAVEN, 31-10
Herbert Woodard NE-10 Offensive Player-of-the-Week
Men's Soccer: FOUR straight wins to NE-10 first-place

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior running back HERBERT WOODARD (Bridgeton, NJ/Salem) rushed 30 times for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lead Assumption College past the University of New Haven, 31-10, in a Northeast-10 Conference football game FRIDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The Greyhounds are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference standings---the first time they have been 2-1 since 2006. New Haven is now 1-1 and 0-1.

On the other side New Haven sophomore quarterback Ryan Osiecki completed 32-of-54 passes for 348 yards. Sophomore wide out Sharieff Hall caught 12 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown and added 75 yards in the return game to account for 209 yards of all-purpose yards. The scoring starting quickly as both teams scored on their first possession.

The Greyhounds marched 63 yards in just three plays on the first series. Junior quarterback ANDREW KUPEC (Wyckoff, NJ/Indian Hills) (11-for-18, 136 yards) found junior wide receiver DAVID CANNEY (Templeton, MA/Narragansett) (4 receptions for 78 yards) on the first play for 28 yards and then Woodard rambled 10 and 25 yards for the score. Canney made the key block on the 25-yard TD scamper. Freshman CORY KEMPS (Carmel, IN/Carmel) kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead. The Chargers came right back driving 45 yards in 11 plays aided by a roughing-the-passer penalty to set up a Michael Herrara 34-yard field goal.

The Hounds would then score two second-period touchdowns to move to a 21-3 advantage at the half.
Senior defensive tackle TERRY STANFORD (Hackensack, NJ/Ridgefield Park) stopped Osieski on a fourth-and-two play at the Assumption 45 to set up the first drive. A Kupec-to-Canney pass for 33 yards and subsequent 18-yard scamper around right end for the score highlighted the march. Kemps kicked the conversion.

Junior defensive back/captain BOBBY SANSOUCY (Worcester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) blocked a Herrera 27-yard field goal attempt and senior defensive back BERNARD SCOTT (Saint Petersburg, FL/Admiral Farragut) recovered at the Assumption 43 to set up the second score.

Kupec passed to junior wide receiver MARK GATELY (Waltham, MA/Waltham) for 15 yards and to junior wide receiver MARCUS NICHOLS (Salem, NJ/Salem) for 15 more to highlight the six-play, 57-yard march. Woodard finished with a seven-yard slant for thge score and Kemps kicked the conversion for a 21-3 advantage.

New Haven cashed in on a nine-play, 78-yard march to start the third period to make things interesting. Osiecki completed five-of-five passes for 70 yards---the last 38 to Hall for the score. Herrara's conversion made it 21-10. The Greyhounds then came right back to put three points on the score board as Kemps kicked a 33 yard field goal on the ensuing series to make 24-10.

They would score an insurance touchdown with 50 seconds left as Woodard scooted the final seven yards for his fourth score of the game. A quarterback hurry by junior tackle MATT CHALMERS (Colchester, CT/Bacon Academy) on a fourth-and-one play set the drive in motion.
