Freshmen dominant for Hound swimmers again!

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Assumption College Student Athlete Advisory Committee along with members of the student body at the College joined together for a "Hounds for Haiti" initiative which has raised nearly $6,000 to date.

The groups assisted in raising the funds for the Catholic Relief Services (http://crs.org) efforts in the recovery and rebuilding programs in Haiti. The mission of CRS is to "promote human development by responding to major emergencies, fighting disease and poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies.

Student Athlete Advisory Committee sponsored a 50/50 raffle during the college's basketball doubleheader Saturday (January 23, 2010) as the Greyhounds defeated Saint Michael's College in both the women and men's games. The proceeds will go to "Hounds for Haiti."

The group also assisted the campus Outreach Center (community service) and the Student Government Association in selling red t-shirts with blue lettering, the colors of the Haitian flag, that said HOUNDS FOR HAITI for a contribution to the cause. The crowd which including a Winter Homecoming group responded. Both the women and men's basketball teams wore the red t-shirts as their warm-up shirts before the game to promote awareness.

66 Student-Athlete Earn Dean's List Honors
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Assumption College has long demonstrated that its student-athletes knew the meaning of both "student" and "athlete" as 66 earned spots on the 2009 Fall Semester Dean's List at the College.

Five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade point average for the semester including baseball's MICHAEL COLEBROOK (Sr., Leicester, MA/Saint John's), football's NICK DI ANTONIO (So., Milford, MA/Milford) and BOBBY SANSOUCY (Jr., Worcester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian), track's JENNA HUBACZ (Sr., North Brookfield, MA/North Brookfield) and basketball's LESLIE LUPIEN (Sr., Pomfret, CT/Woodstock Academy).

Along with the 66 who represent the department on the Dean's List, 203 total student-athletes earlier earned spots on the department's Student-Athlete Honor Roll. Women's lacrosse (8), field hockey (7) and baseball (6) had the most players make the list.

"We are very pleased with efforts of our student-athletes, both on an off the playing field," said Ted Paulauskas, Director of Athletics. We are very committed to providing our fans with conference contending teams and then watch as the athletes go to graduation. Our coaching staff is committed to recruiting outstanding student athletes and then providing the leadership so vital as these student-athletes mature both as athletes and students.
