BASKETBALL teams gear for banner seasons!

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Assumption College scored two second-half goals and came-from-behind to defeat Saint Anselm College, 3-2, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer game TUESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The victory assured the Greyhounds of a seventh-place finish and their first Northeast-10 Conference postseason playoff berth since 2001.

Freshman forward ANDREW KROH (Mount Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) scored the most important goal in Greyhound soccer annals since 2001 at 80:15. His fourth goal of the season came as he took a feed from sophomore midfielder COLIN LYNCH (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) and dribbled past a defender and tapped it past goalkeeper John Corridan.

The Hounds, down 2-1 entering the second half, tied the game as sophomore midfielder JEFFREY SWAN (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield-Ludlowe) scored an unassisted goal as he moved in on the keeper and drilled a shot over the prone Corridan into the upper right corner. It was his second goal of the season.

Assumption College finished their regular-season at 6-6-5 overall and 5-4-4 in the conference under second-year head coach JEREMY BONOMO. The Greyhounds will open conference postseason action Sunday at Franklin Pierce, Southern New Hampshire or LeMoyne depending on games to be played Wednesday night.

Southern New Hampshire is currently in first-place at 9-0-3 (30 points), Franklin Pierce is second at 9-2-1 (28 points), Le Moyne is third at 9-3-1 (28 points) and Massachusetts Lowell is fourth at 8-1-3 (27 points). Franklin Pierce plays at American International and Southern New Hampshire plays at Massachusetts Lowell in night games at 7 p.m.

Saint Anselm opened the scoring at 30:35 of the first-half as forward Sam Lamptey scored his 10th goal of the season on a brilliant individual effort. He dribbled past two defenders and found the high left corner of the net.

The Greyhounds came back to tie it at 1-1 as sophomore midfielder BRENDAN MC GEE (Merrimack, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored his third goal of the season on a shot from right side deflected in by a Hawk defender.

Saint Anselm retook the lead one second later (that's right!) as Lamptey scored his 11th from 50-yards out on a lob shot from midfielder Richard Simmonds.

Saint Anselm with an 11-6 edge in the first half outshot the Greyhounds, 15 13. The Greyhounds did have a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Corridan made three saves in net for the Hawks, while sophomore BRENDAN MC CANN (Pepperell, MA/North Middlesex) made eight for the Greyhounds.

Earlier in the day, Bentley College defeated Saint Michael's, 4-3, to end in eighth-place with the final playoff spot.

The Greyhounds have played in three Northeast-10 Conference post-season tournaments. In 2001, they lost at Southern Connecticut (2-1) before moving on to the ECAC tournament. In 2000 they played a scoreless tie with then New Hampshire College however did not advance losing the right in penalty kicks. In 1999 they were beaten by Merrimack (3-2) in the quarterfinal round.

Nationally ranked A.I.C. topples Hounds' football, 43-24
In a game with several individual superlatives on both sides American International College placekicker Marek Prezbylek took the spotlight with three field goals, including a 50-yarder, as the 16th ranked and undefeated Yellow Jackets (8 0, 6-0) prevailed 43-24 over the Greyhounds (1-7, 1-5) in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Other outstanding performers included Yellow Jacket quarterback Rob Parent who completed 19-of-30 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns . . . wide receiver Travis Poole, who caught 10 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown . . . wide receiver Kertis Hussey who returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and finished with 205 yards of all-purpose offense. Defensively, linebacker Rick Reichert finished with a team-high 2-12--14 tackles.

For the Greyhounds sophomore quarterback JOSH RATACIK (Manchester, NH/Central) completed 23-of-38 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns . . . senior wide receiver JOEY FABIANO (Westwood, MA/Westwood) who caught eight passes for 106 yards and a touchdown and became the merely the fourth Greyhounds with over 100 receptions in a career (now third at 107).

Defensively, Greyhounds' senior free safety CHRIS MARTINO (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) finished with 4-12--16 tackles inching his way toward the magic 300 mark for his career (281 with two games remaining) . . . junior linebacker DUSTIN ZITZMANN (Pinellas Park, FL/Dixie Hollins) with 2-11--13 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass pressure, also heading toward No. 300 (286 with two games remaining) and sophomore TYSON GARCIA (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) who ended with 3-3--6 tackles, three pass breakups and two blocked kicks (one field goal, one conversion point).

CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY Saturday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. The game will be webcast and can be accessed on the Assumption College athletics web site at www.assumptiongreyhounds.com. The Yellow Jackets drove 80 yards in 10 plays on their first series to take the lead, 7-0. Running back Mike Mayo capped the march with a two-yard run off-right tackle and Prezbylek kicked the conversion. Mayo rushed for 22 yards on the second play and Parent connected with Poole for seven, nine and eight yards and 24 yards to Hussey to highlight the drive.

It took the Jackets one play on their second possession as Parent and Poole connected on an 80-yard scoring strike down the near sideline. With Prezbylek's conversion the Yellow Jackets led 14-0 with 2:37 left in the quarter. Parent finished the first period six-for-six for 145 yards through the air. A.I.C. moved to a 21-0 lead with Parent finding Hussey on a 10-yard slant for a score to cap a four-play, 30-yard drive just into the second period.

After the Greyhounds' senior linebacker DAN HICKEY (Auburn, MA/Auburn) recovered a fumble at the Yellow Jacket 35, Ratacik found Fabiano on a 26-yard touchdown for the score. Freshman ZACK OKOLOWITCZ (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) kicked the conversion. Hussey returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a score for the Yellow Jackets (along with Prezbylek's conversion) to make it 28-7.

The Greyhounds' Okolowitcz kicked a 30-yard field goal as the time expired in the half to make ot 28-10. Sophomore running back HERBERT WOODARD (Salem, NJ/Salem) rushed for 11 yards and Ratacik and Fabiano teamed for receptions of 31 and eight yards to highlight the seven-play, 50-yard drive.

American Internatonal struck quickly in the third period increasing their lead to 37-10. Prezbylek kicked a 37-yard field goal to finish a six-play, 36-yard drive with 12:01 left. A Parent-to-Poole connection for 28 yards highlighted the march.
On the next Hounds' possession Ratacik was intercepted by lineman Jashawn Williams. Williams lost control and the loose ball was recovered and returned 55 yards for a touchdown by defensive back Brian Kelly. The Hounds' Garcia blocked the conversion attempt.

After a bad snap on a punt attempt the Hounds were set up at the A.I.C. 40 as senior linebacker MITCHELL WELCH (Southington, CT/Southington) and sophomore end COREY BLACKWOOD (Springfield, MA/Science Tech) smothered Yellow Jackets' punter Jonathan Thorpe.

Ratacik found sophomore tight end ERIC SCHINDLER (Kenilworth, NJ/Brearley) for 27 yards and them freshman BRANDON BISHOP (Mendon, MA/Nipmuc) for the final 12 yards and a score. Okolowitcz' conversion made it 37 17.

The next two possessions netted field goals for Prezbylek and the Yellow Jackets. First, driving 46 yards in 12 plays . . . Parent completed passes of 15 yards to Poole and 13 yards to Hussey to highlight the drive . . . capped by a 45-yard field goal with the wind.

Then after a three-and-out by the Greyhounds Prezbylek drilled a team-record 50-yarder to make it 43-17.
The Greyhounds then drove 80 yards in 10 plays to score their final points as sophomore tackle MATT SIDEBOTTOM (Franklin, MA/Franklin) scored on a tackle-eligible play of 10 yards. Okolowitcz' conversion made the final 43-24. Sidebottom is believed to be the first Northeast-10 Conference offensive lineman to catch two passes in a game. Ratacik teamed with Bishop for three receptions of 10, 16 and 19 yards in the drive.

American International had one more scoring opportunity with the Hounds' Garcia stuffing a Prezbylek bid for a fourth field goal from 49 yards.

LAST YEAR'S GAME: Southern Conn. 33, Assumption 17
October 5, 2007
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Running back Jerom Freeman rushed 31 times for a 248 yards and three touchdowns leading Southern Connecticut State past Assumption, 33-17, in Northeast-10 Conference football.

The Owls were dominate offensively with 469 yards of total offense including 308 rushing (only the 27th time in Hounds history they have allowed over 300). They also converted an amazing eight-of-15 third down opportunities.

The Greyhounds however took the opening kickoff and drove 52 yards on just seven plays to take the early lead. Sophomore DAVID CANNEY (Templeton, MA/Narragansett) returned the kickoff 32 yards to the Hounds 48 with Southern Connecticut's Kyle Sandburg making the touchdown-saving tackle.

On fourth down at the Owls 47 the Greyhounds short snapped to the up man, freshman JEFF MOORE (Worcester, MA/St. John's) who rambled 41 yards to the six. Junior quarterback TAYLOR HUMPHREY (Lafayette, CA/Miramonte) found senior wide out JAKE BEERS (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) on a three-yard TD pass. Senior JON EISELE (Lower Gwynedd, PA/Vermont Academy) kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Southern Connecticut would convert their next two possessions to take a 10-7 advantage. Placekicker Charles Gallagher kicked a 24-yard field goal to cap an 11 play, 56-yard march. Quarterback Steve Armstrong completed three passes in the drive of 20 yards to tight end Robert Felder, 10 yards to wide receiver Jonathan Lee and 16 yards to Freeman. Hounds' junior safety CHRIS MARTINO (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) made a sensational tip of a pass intended for wide receiver Chris Bergeski in the end zone forcing the field goal attempt.

After a three-and-out by the Hounds, Southern Connecticut then drove 61 yards in nine plays to take the lead. Freeman rushed for 48 yards, including a spectacular 37-yards scamper for the TD. Gallagher's conversion made it 10-7.

In the second period the Owls took advantage of a mishandled snap and recovery by tackle Desmond Lymon. An Armstrong-to-tight end Tom Cerny eight yard pass was followed by a Freeman 10-yard touchdown run up-the-middle. Gallagher's conversion made it a 10-point game, 17-7.

Gallagher kicked a 22-yard field goal to make it 20-7 as the Owls moved 73 yards in seven plays with two big plays highlighting the drive. Armstrong connected with Bergeski for 38 yards and again for 29 yards.

An interception by Martino helped the Greyhounds closer in the third period. A 35-yard field goal by Eisele made it 20-10 just before the half ended.

In the third period Humphrey connected with junior wide receiver JOEY FABIANO (Westwood, MA/Westwood) on a 70-yard touchdown strike (Eisele conversion) to make it 20-17. It was the sixth-longest pass reception in Greyhounds football history.
The Greyhounds then executed a perfect onside kick catching the Owls by surprise as Martino plucked the ball out of the air at the Greyhounds 45. Humphrey however was intercepted on the first play by free safety David Belli.

Southern ran nine times in 11 plays with Freeman carrying seven for 45 yards including the final 16 for the touchdown on the final play of the third period. Gallagher's conversion made it a 10-point game, 27-17.

A partially blocked punt by Owls' outside linebacker Marques Jenkins set up the final score. Fullback Chris Zoziol scored from 20 yard out with a up-the-gut run. Gallagher's conversion made the final, 33-17.

GREYHOUND NOTES: sophomore linebacker DUSTIN ZITZMANN (Pinellas Park, FL/Dixie Hollins) was sensational with a career-best 5-15--20 tackles including a shared quarterback sack and a pass break-up . . . he is just the EIGHTH player in Hounds history with 20 or more tackles and the first since Phuoc Huynh (Worcester, MA) had 18-2--20 against M.I.T. (10-11-97) . . . his 15 assists are the THIRD highest total in Hounds history . . . junior free safety CHRIS MARTINO (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) ended with 6-4--10 tackles, 1 key break-up, an interception, and a recovery of an onside kick . . . senior wide receiver JAKE BEERS (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) has now caught a pass in 19 straight games . . . he ended the game with five catches for 23 yards . . . he now has 23 for 291 yards this season and 131 in his career for 1,582 yards . . . the Hounds career mark is 140 catches by Eric Mauer '01 he also trails just Mauer (2,166 yards) and Don Kinney '89 (1,686 yards) in that department . . . sophomore wide out DAVID CANNEY (Templeton, MA/Narragansett) had four receptions for 52 yards and now has 68 for his career for 838 yards.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

COACH: Serge DE BARI (Assumption '71)
CAPTAINS: Mitch BAJEMA '09 and Patrick SHEA '09
RECORD TO DATE: Won 0, Lost 0
NORTHEAST-10 TO DATE: Won 0, Lost 0

The Hounds: N.E. Division II's all-time winningest . . . 1,014 wins!
LAST YEAR: the reviews for the third year in the second coach SERGE DEBARI '71 regime were all raves. The team had four players average in double figures in a well-balanced offense and they consistently outrebounded their opponents.
They finished 24-11 as the most improved team in the region and advanced to the final of both the Northeast-10 Conference and N.C.A.A. Division II regional tournaments---not bad for a team picked to finish 10th by the Northeast-10 Conference coaches in its preseason poll. They won their 1,000th game vs. Post, CT (64-62 on December 29, 2007), won two of three games in the Disney Classic, won both games at the Bryant Mixer and owned wins over nationally ranked L.I.U.-C.W. Post (73-71), Philadelphia (80-65 and 60-59) and North Alabama (85-78). And, they received enough votes in the final national poll to make them 26th overall.

THE NON-RETURNERS: DeBari will miss the services of Northeast-10 Conference all-star forward/center Corey Diethorn '08 (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy), now playing in England, forward Mike Foti '08 (Franklin, MA/Franklin), forward Alex Popp '08 (Winchester, MA/Winchester). Diethorn led the team averaging 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds and shooting .509 from the floor, while leading the Northeast-10 Conference in blocked shots (77). He finished his career with 1,175 points and 717 rebounds, 162 blocked shots and .512 floor accuracy. Foti averaged 10.4 points and 3.4 rebounds and led the squad with 52 three-pointers ending his career with 887 points and 124 three-pointers. while Popp proved a valuable resource off-the-bench. Another senior, guard Leroy Byron '08, missed all of last year with an injury and ended his career with 712 points.

RETURNING NUCLEUS: DeBari will mold the 2008-09 Greyhounds around a host of returning standouts. Postgraduate forward/two-year captain GREG TWOMEY (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable), the Hounds' resident work-a holic and Northeast-10 Conference third-team all-star, led the team with 1,195 minutes, averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and shot .467 from the floor. He was spectacular (25 points, 7 assists) in an overtime win at Merrimack (92-91) and followed with 18 points, 12 rebounds in a win over nationally ranked L.I.U.-C.W. Post (73-71) on-the-road. The leading scorer in the 1,000-win game vs. Post (19 points), he saved his best effort for the last game against Bentley in the regional final with 18 second-half points helping to rally the team from a 17-point deficit (52-35) to within four points (64-60) over a 10-minute stretch. He finished with 23 double figure scoring games and became the 35th Greyhound to reach the 1,000-point mark (1,061 and counting). He also became the first forward in Hounds' history since 1972-73 to have over 100 assists (123) in a season. Dan Small has 103 in 1972-73 and his coach had 136 in his senior year (1970-71).

Senior guard/forward/captain PATRICK SHEA (Salem, MA/Salem), who at times is a deft passing machine and at other times shows signs of being a premier perimeter shooter, is easily the team's "resident statmaker" along with being its top defender. He averaged 9.2 points and led the team with 159 assists, was second in minutes (1,134), rebounds (7.3), steals (43), blocks (34). He opened the season with a 16 point, six-assist performance in a win over Philadelphia, had 18 points, six rebounds in a win over Franklin Pierce and 15 points, six assists in the first postseason win over Massachusetts Lowell. He had a season-high 13 rebounds in the regional win over Holy Family and nine assists in a grueling overtime win at Merrimack.

Junior guard COURTLAND BLUFORD (Fort Washington, MD/Saint Vincent Pallotti) is the team catalyst and averaged 10.0 points (fourth on the team) in 1,130 minutes (third on the team) and team-leading 63 steals with 17 double figure games. His top game was 21 points, five assists in the regional win over Holy Family and also had 19 points in a win at Southern New Hampshire.
Senior point guard/captain MITCH BAJEMA (Whitinsville, MA/Whitinsville Christian) averaged 6.1 points with 38 three-pointers (second on the team). He had 17 points with five three-pointers in 72-44 postseason win at Saint Rose. Sophomore forward MIKE BALDARELLI (Sutton, MA/Holy Name) averaged 6.7 points off-the-bench with 37 three-pointers and had 28 points in a win at Southern New Hampshire and 20 points in a win over Saint Michael's.

Sophomore guard DOMINIQUE PRICE (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), who also plays football, adds more athleticism and impressed with more playing time down-the-stretch last year, junior forward RENAN MALAFAIA (Watertown, CT/Newton, MA North/Taft adds athleticism up front and is shot blocker/rebounder, senior forward MAREK KULIG (Brick, NJ/Msgr. Donovan), senior guard WALTER WEEKES (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and sophomore forward TOBIN HAASE (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Park) have impressed in preseason workouts.

NEW PEOPLE: 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard/forward SHACHAR BIRENDORF (Petch Tiqva, Israel/Head Haam High), a teammate of former Greyhounds' standout Shahar Golan '05 on the Ramt Hepal team in Israel, is a physical No. 3 or 4 who can play both inside and out and contribute in all areas of the game. As a senior in high school averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds as his team advanced to the state tournament. Combo guard KEVIN DONAHUE (Pawcatuck, CT/Stonington) is a take-charge lefty, who will bring depth to the perimeter game. He scored 1,714 points in high school and had four straight 30-point games in the Hall of Fame Spring Classic including 42 against Albany City. Forward (6-foot-6, 190-pound) JEFF STEWART (Herndon, VA/Flint Hill School) is explosive and equally adept inside and out. He averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds as a senior and played in the Jabbar Kennder League all-star game. Samford University transfer (6 foot-7, 205-pounds) SAVOY FRAINE (Granada Hills, CA/Granada Hills) is a high energy player, standout defender and rebounder. He averaged 18.6 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks as a senior at Granada Hills and earned second-team all-Los Angeles and ranked third in the California in blocks as senior. Finally, 6-foot-6, 230 pount forward TIM BEINERT (Bellrose Village, NY/Holy Cross) is a cerebral post/power forward who can score inside and is an accomplished three-point shooter. He averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds as his team won the city and CHSAA state titles.

THIS YEAR: DeBari will build the team in the same mold of the many successful Greyhound teams of the past. Expect the team to lead the conference in diving on-the-floor and expect them to play physical and aggressive defense. He is asking Bluford to upgrade his offensive production, while Twomey needs to do what he does best, create an atmosphere of hard-work. Key man is Shea, who has shown signs of being the top perimeter player on the squad, and at other times the team's best passer. There is little doubt of his versatility and his defensive prowess.

Offense predicated off switching defenses is always the order of the day with the more-than-occasional three thrown in. The Hounds are now as athletic as any team in the conference and have added considerable depth which will make them a tough assignment on any given night. Expect this team to be in the conference chase and eventually go to the NCAA regional tournament at season's end.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

COACH: Kerry PHAYRE (Providence '83)
CAPTAINS: Trish GARDNER '09 and Bethany PLASSKI '09
RECORD TO DATE: Won 0, Lost 0
NORTHEAST-10 TO DATE: Won 0, Lost 0

Greyhounds Optimistic About Return to N.C.A.A. Post-Season!
LAST YEAR:
the reviews were basically raves for the Greyhounds as they enjoyed their fourth 20-win season en route to the N.C.A.A. regional tournament for the third time in the KERRY PHAYRE regime. The team started fast winning two of three at the Disney Classic, then sweeping the Marriott Courtyard Classic at home, the San Diego Surf 'N Slam and, finally, parading into the national poll with a nifty team-record nine-game win streak into mid-January.

The major catalyst in the equation was senior forward/captain and Northeast 10 Conference all-star Charde Floyd (Worcester, MA/Doherty) (9.1 ppg, 9.6 reb), who became merely the fourth player in Greyhound women's history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Only a late-season injury put a serious crimp in the team's chances to reach the Elite Eight.

Also included in the process were guard/captain and honorable mention all American/Northeast-10 Conference all-star BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee), who led the team averaging 15.0 points with 49 three-pointers and joining the century club in free throws (106-for-130) . . . point TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth), easily the most underrated player in the Northeast-10 Conference, was the team leader on-the-floor with 172 assists (fifth best in Hounds' history) and 949 minutes . . . forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) earned all-Northeast-10 Conference freshman team honors, averaging 9,2 points and making 30 three-pointers and guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) emerged as a major factor in San Diego averaging 6.3 points off-the-bench.

THE NON-RETURNERS: Phayre will first deal with the loss of the aforementioned Charde Floyd . . . Floyd scored 1,212 points and added 1,056 rebounds, 246 steals and .568 floor accuracy in a brilliant future Hall of Famer career . . . 6-foot-3 reserve forward/center Megan Urban (Portland, ME/Deering) (7.7 ppg, 4.4 reb) ended her career with 812 career points, 460 rebounds and .516 floor accuracy . . . and reserve guard/captain Britt Bishop (Mendon, MA/Nimuc) one of the top defensive players on the squad and reserve forward Sara Czarnecki (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland), who averaged 3.7 points and 4.3 points with solid minutes down-the-stretch, was the team's leading rebounder six times off-the-bench.

RETURNING NUCLEUS: Phayre will mold the 2008-09 Greyhounds around their irrepressible senior backcourt tandem of Plasski and Gardner. The duo played more minutes than anyone else on the team for a reason.

Try these stats for openers: Plasski led the team 13 times in scoring and the team finished 11-2 in those games . . . Gardner led the team 23 times in assists and the team finished 19-4 and when they both led the team in their respective categories the team was unbeaten (11-0).

Plasski, the Andrew Laska Award winner as the female athlete-of-the-year at the College, ended with 28 double-figure scoring games (out of 32!) with seven 20 point games. Top performance was a 25-point gem with 10 steals for her first career double-double against New Haven in the Surf N Slam; 25 points with four three pointers against NCAA contender Molloy in the Marriott Classic and 24 points in a 30-point blow out of now Division I Bryant. She also joined the 1,000-point club and currently resides at 1,058 along with being the career free throw leader at .810 (248-for-306) and among the career leaders with 114 treys.

Gardner is the Hounds' on-court general and the only player to start all 32 games last year. Her top game was 13 points, making six-of-eight from the floor, in a buzzer-beating win at Southern New Hampshire (it was her trey that won it). She finished second in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.95).

Junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford), a conference all freshman performer the previous season, averaged 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds. She poured in a career-best 27 points (10-for-17 from the floor) in a win over Saint Anselm and two games later added 22 points with a trio of three-pointers in an 18 point win over NCAA powerhouse Bentley College. She also had 23 points in another win over an NCAA regional team Molloy and finished with 19 double-figure games. With 604 points, she is on her way to the magical 1,000-point mark.

Mobile sophomore swing MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) adds considerable perimeter scoring punch and chipped in with 15 double-figure games. Her top efforts included a 20-point gem at UMass Lowell, an 18-point, 12-rebound effort versus Merrimack for her first double-double and 18 points vs. Lander, SC in the Disney Classic. Junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock), the Hounds' resident perpetual motion machine, burst on-the scene with 39 points in back-to-back efforts in the San Diego Surf N Slam. She had a career-high 23 points in a romp over New Haven and had 16 the next night in a solid win over Slippery Rock.

Guards AMANDA SHEEHY (Jr., Linden, NJ/Rosell Catholic) (2.3 ppg), MAEGAN COOK (Jr., Braintree, MA/Braintree) (2.1 ppg), JACKIE BRANCA (J.r, Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson) (0.8 ppg) and point THERESA AMELIO (So., Bronx, NY/Preston) add depth to the backcourt. Athletic forward PAM MOBLEY (So., Worcester, MA/Doherty), brings a dominant defensive personality and rebounder to the equation.

NEW PEOPLE: guard BRITTANY COHEN (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville DeWitt) was a three-time all-league selection and averaged 17 points and five assists, forward NICOLE LEPREVOST (Lee, MA/Lee) led her team to the Western Mass. Division III title three times and forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) scored 1,632 points with over 800 rebounds in high school and averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds as a senior.

THIS YEAR: Phayre will build the 2008-09 Greyhounds in the same mold of her many successful teams of the past and therefore expect the Hounds to lead the league in physical and aggressive defense.

This team however will be dominated by guard play as Plasski and Gardner are as good a tandem as there is in the Northeast-10 Conference. Parker, Griffiths and Lupien provide additional solid scoring punch, while the newcomers should all provide solid depth.

One exciting sidelight will be Coach Phayre's approach of the magical 200-win mark here at the College (she's just three away).
When it's over expect the Greyhounds to be in the conference chase all the way and go deep in the playoffs. And, another shot at an NCAA berth is well within grasp.
