GREYHOUNDS WEEKLY
SPORTS NOTEBOOK
February 13, 2008, Number 21 Hounds
BASKETBALL teams now 36-12, both headed Corey DIETHORN
scores 1,000th point, Bethany PLASSKI (974) and Greg TWOMEY (940) up next! The Hounds, ranked No. 4 in this week's NCAA Division II Northeast Regional poll, are now 19-5 overall and 13-4 in the conference (third place). Stonehill by virtue of its 57-38 over Bentley is in sole possession of first place at 14-3, while Franklin Pierce now 14-4, after a 64-47 win over Saint Anselm, is in second place. The Greyhounds' defense was the key to the game limiting the Knights to just a .304 percentage (17-for-56) from the floor and just one-of-15 from three-point territory. They also outrebounded the Knights, 47-35 with 20 on the offensive glass. Offensively the Hounds held a 36-16 advantage in points-in-the-paint and scored 26 points off Saint Rose turnovers. Urban had 10 points at halftime as the Greyhounds forged a 32-27 advantage. They led by as much as nine points (17-8) as Urban buried a foul-line jumper with 10:38 left. When Jenna Hughes made both ends of a two-shot foul opportunity the Golden Knights had trimmed the lead to 27-25 with 2:41 left. The Greyhounds then outscored the home team 5-2 the rest of the way to lead by five at the break. Urban made a layin and senior guard BRITT BISHOP (Mendon, MA/Nipmuc) made three free throws to account for the Hounds' scoring, while Amy Voekel scored off an offensive rebound for Saint Rose. The Greyhounds then outscored Saint Rose 19-5 to open the second and move to a 19-point advantage, 51-32. Urban started the run with putback of an offensive rebound, Plasski connected on a wing jumper and sophomore forward KAYLA PARKER (Stanford, ME/Stanford) made a free throw for a quick 37-27 lead. Saint Rose guard Dana Brown hit a jumper and made a three-pointer (the Knights only three-pointer of the game) to again cut the deficit to five points, 37-32. The Hounds would then run the next 14 points. Plasski scored on a layin off a feed from Gardner and then freshman MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) hit a corner three-pointer, again from Gardner. Gardner then found Urban and Parker on consecutive trips down the floor, before Parker drilled a three pointer from the top-of-the-circle. Gardner finished the run with a layin. Plasski ended with 19 points on seven-for-15 floor accuracy, Urban ended with a season-high 18 points and Parker added 10 points and six rebounds.
