WEEKLY SPORTS NOTEBOOK FOOTBALL: WORCESTER, Mass. --- Head Coach CORY BAILEY will unveil his fourth edition of the Assumption College football team THURSDAY night as the Greyhounds host Division 1 AA Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, CT) in the Multi-Sport Stadium. day came on September 4, 1999 when they beat Sacred Heart (32-14) GREYHOUND HOME OPENERS: Overall Record: (15-24-1) ASSUMPTION 32, SACRED HEART 14 (last win over Sacred Heart) Clive tied the school mark co-held by former Hound all-America FRAN DE FALCO, who scored five touchdowns vs. Massachusetts Lowell (11-6-93). His 210 yards represents the fourth-best effort in Hound history. The Hounds moved to a 19-7 lead at the hjalf as Clive scored three first half touchdowns. His 10-yard scamper off right tackle at 9:25 of the first period capped a nine-play, 55-yard drive . . . a march keyed by a junior quarterback CHAD CHARGES (North Attleboro, MA) to senior wide out JASON CALLA (Winthrop, MA) 11 yard pass, a 14-yard keeper by Carges and an 18-yard rambled by Clive. The Pioneers took the ensuing kickoff and drove 48 yards in 14 plays . . . 1 44-yard return by VICTOR BENSON (Hyde Park, MA) set up the drive. KIHEME COWAN (Woodbridge, NJ), who rushed for 143 yards to lead the Pioneer offense, rambled six times for 33 yards in the march. He also caught a STEVE LADD (Newburyport, MA) pass for 11 yards. TIM REDICAN (Meriden, CT) kicked the conversion for a 7-7 tie. The Hounds took the lead for keeps as freshman linebacker JOE PANNULLO (Orchard Park, NY) picked off a Ladd aerial. The Hounds scored three plays later on a Carges-to-Clive 30-yard pass plays on the first play of the second period. The third TD came following the first of two fumble recoveries by freshman defensive end SEAN HAGERTY (Worcester, MA/Holy Name). The Hounds drove 89 yards in 11 plays capped by a Clive eight-yard touchdown run. Clive scored on a 26-yard pass from Carges in the third period and on a 24-yard run . . . eclipsing the 200-yard barrier in the fourth period. He might have scored six but fumbled on the one yard line later in the period. Defensively, the Hounds were led by sophomore linebackers PETE LEONARD (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) (13 tackles, 1/2 sack) and CORY CLIVE (Orchard Park, NY) . . . brother of Kevin . . (MF, Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludlowe) had five assists (5 points) in a 1-0-1
week. Assisted on the team's lone goal in a tie with Molloy and followed with
a team-record four assists in a 5-0 win over Queens. SOCCER NOTES: freshman midfielder JEFFREY SWAN had four assists in the win over Queens, NY Sunday which tied a program record-- Hall of Famer Mario Bisol '81 had four assists in a match against Merrimack (October 12, 1977). Freshman keeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/St. Dominic) recorded his first career shutout in his second career game on Sunday against Queens. Only Dave Durham '81, who shutout Nichols (2-0) (September 18, 1977) in his first career game, registered a shutout faster in a career than Sullivan. SCHEDULE AND RESULTS JEREMY BONOMO NAMED MEN'S SOCCER COACH He played a major role as a defender on teams that posted an impressive 62-14-10 record in his career (1998, 2000-02) including four Northeast-10 Conference playoff appearances and two league championships (2002, 2000). The team also advanced to three N.C.A.A. Division II tournaments and were ranked in the national top 20 four times. The Penmen reached the national final in 2002 and the national quarterfinal in both 1998 and 2000. He was the team captain in 2002 and earned third team Northeast 10 Conference honors. He was the team Most Valuable Player in 2001. He was graduated from S. New Hampshire cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2002. He received his Masters in Business Adminstration with a certificate in Operations Management in 2006 also from S.N.H.U. WOMEN'S SOCCER ![]() COACH: Neil STAFFORD (Southern New Hampshire '95) WOMEN'S FIELD HOCKEY ![]() COACH: Deb DRAPER (Bridgewater State '80) WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ![]() COACH: Gary PATCH GARY PATCH NAMED WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL COACH Patch finished his first year as the head coach with the successful Bancroft School (Worcester, MA) program---the Bulldogs are currently 20-0 and are riding a 2-1/2-year winning streak. The team has not dropped a match or a set in that span, winning each match, 3-0. They are hoping to win their seventh straight Eastern Independent League championship and also defend their New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament championship for the third straight year. He assumed control of the WPI volleyball program this past fall and recorded 11 victories---most by an Engineer team since 1999. He has also coached at Ursuline Academy (Dedham, MA) and took that school to the sectional finals in 2003 and was the boys and girls volleyball coach at Framingham, MA High in 2005-06. In addition, he has extensive experience at the club volleyball level. He has been involved with Smash Volleyball---Junior Olympic girls-under-18 elite team---for the past four years and was head coach of the High Performance New England USA Volleyball Girls Youth 2006 National Team. He has also worked with the MetroWest Elite-18 travel team and the High Performance Youth National team. As a star player he has played in the USVBA nationals 10 times and finished as high as second in the outdoor-grass nationals, also sponsored by the USVBA, in San Jose, CA. MEN AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ![]() COACH: Gary JUSSEUAME (Worcester State '73) MEN'S GOLF ![]() COACH: Tim BIBAUD (Holy Cross '81) WOMEN'S ROWING COACH: Jason BOYLE (California-Berkeley '00) OTHER GREYHOUND NEWS COLLEGE ADDS WOMENS SWIMMING AS SPORT; "The addition of womens swimming creates a gender balance giving providing additional more opportunities to our female student-athletes to participate in Division 2 athletics," said Paulauskas. "In addition, we already haveWith an outstanding aquatic facility on our campus in the (Plourde Recreation Center), it makes perfect sense for the College to expand its athletics program in this direction." Paulauskas also announced that Stuart Cromarty, a longtime tenured faculty member at the College, will serve as the head coach. Cromarty was a standout swimmer for Boston University and the South African national team, and has more than 10 years of coaching experience. The addition of womens swimming increases the department's offerings to 23 sports. The College currently offers 11 opportunities for male student-athletes in football, soccer, cross country, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball, golf and indoor and outdoor track . . . and 11 opportunities for female student-athletes in soccer, cross country, tennis, basketball, lacrosse, softball, volleyball, field hockey, rowing, indoor and outdoor track. Assumption College will become the eighth institution in the Northeast-10 Conference to compete in the sport (beginning in 2008-09) joining Bentley, Bryant, Le Moyne, Pace Saint Michael's, Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut. The season schedules from early October to the N.C.A.A. Division II national championship the first week of March. Southern Connecticut is scheduled to host the Northeast-10 Conference championships in both 2007 and 2008 in December. STUART CROMARTY NAMED HEAD COACH "We are thrilled to have a person of Stuart's background involved with the developmental stages of our program," said Paulauskas. "Stuart was and still is a tremendous competitor and has been involved at several levels of the sport including high school, college, and international both as a participant and a coach. He still competes in the Masters division." He was a standout swimmer at Boston University captaining the team in 1986--
the first foreign-born student-athlete to serve in that capacity. His extensive
coaching resume includes the University of Rhode Island USS Age Group Team (1992-95)
and the Masters Swim Program (1989-95). He coached the Pace Academy (Atlanta,
GA) Masters Team (1997-00) and of late the Little Rhody USS Age Group Team (2006-present).
He was inducted into the Rhode Island Swimming Hall of Fame in 2005. In her position at Albany she was responsible for all commencement volunteer organizational needs. She also served as an Athletics Graduate Assistant helping in the academic advisement of student-athletes as well as coordinating all athletics academic tutors. From 2004-06 she was an assistant basketball coach with the women's program under head coach Trina Patterson. She also coordinated and directed the summer camp. She began her professional career as an assistant coach at Virginia State University in 2003-04. Irby played collegiate basketball at Georgetown University for Coach Pat Knapp. The Hoyas played in three National Invitational Tournaments during her career. She was also a three-year captain and Virginia Top-50 Player at Hermitage High School (Richmond, VA). She is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, Black Coaches Association, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the YMCA Board of Managers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (minoring in Theology) from Georgetown (2003) and a Master of Science from the University at Albany in Education Administration and Policy Studies with a concentration in higher education (2007). SANDY MORGRAGE NAMED ASSISTANT ATHLETICS DIRECTOR FOR SPORTS MEDICINE She was the head trainer (2003-05), served as a staff assistant (2000-03) and was a graduate assistant (1999-2000) at Bridgewater State College. She has also served as an athletic trainer with the Jordan Hospital Rehabilitation Services (1994 99) in Plymouth, MA and done internships at Northeast-10 Conference members Saint Anselm College (1993-94) and Southern New Hampshire University (1992 93). Morgrage was graduated from Colby-Sawyer College (New London, NH) with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine in 1993. She was the student Athletic Trainer of the Year (1993), won the Sawyer Fellowship Award (1992) and served on the President's Athletics Advisory Committee (1991-92). She also played goal on the lacrosse team. She received her Masters in Physical Ed. at Bridgewater State in 2001. She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. She has both the Massachusetts and Florida Training Licenses and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. KRYSTLE ROBLESKI NAMED TO SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF She was graduated from the Vermont in 2003 with a Bachelor in Nutrition/Food
Sciences with a concentration in Sports Nutrition/Athletic Training. She is
currently enrolled in a Masters program at California, PA. She was also a member
of both the water polo and swim teams while at Vermont. She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification and is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist. 2006-07 Northeast-10 Conference Commissioners Honor Roll Katelyn DOLAN (soccer) FR, Ludlow, MA Silver Scholars Bronze Scholars KRISTIN GAUVIN '05, who ran track for the Hounds (2002-04) is now a Los Angeles Laker Girl. While at the College, Gauvin majored in Management, earning Dean's List honors and graduating cum laude. She helped establish the College's first dance team and was a candidate for a Fulbright Scholarship as a senior. Off-campus, she was a member of the New England Patriots cheerleading squad, serving as captain during the 2003 season and cheering at the 2004 Super Bowl. During the same season, she was named the team's Cheerleader-of-the-Year, which enabled her to travel to the 2004 Pro Bowl with 24 of the NFL's best cheerleaders. She was voted as the NFL Cheerleader of the Year in voting conducting on the nfl.com website after the 2004 season. She was crowned Miss Massachusetts (2005) and later competed for the Miss America title. PATRICK BIGGINS WITH AIA: former Hounds track athlete PATRICK BIGGINS '07 (Worcester, MA) is now a member of the Athletes in Action track and field team and toured Fiji from June 25 to July 15. The team competed against and practiced with Fiji's national track team, and put on track and field clinics for local sports clubs and schools. Prior to heading to Fiji, the track squad went through a week of training camp at AIA Heaquarters in Xenia, Ohio.
