BETHANY PLASSKI named WABC All-America;
WOMENS TRACK wins Worcester Championship Again!
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River,
MA/Durfee) has been named an Honorable Mention All-America as selected by the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Selection committees in each
of the eight WBCA geographical regions selected the top players in the nation
to be honored.
Plasski led the Greyhounds
to a record-setting 22-10 overall mark and into the semifinal of the N.C.A.A.
Division II Northeast Regional Tournament. She was the team's leading scorer,
averaging 15.0 points, and also set the pace with an .814 free throw percentage
and 49 three-pointers for Coach KERRY PHAYRE. The Greyhounds
set a team-record with the 22 victories and participated in their third N.C.A.A.
tournament.
She became the 16th player
in Greyhounds' history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her career against
Stonehill (2/16/08). She has previously been named a first-team Northeast-10
Conference all-star and WBCA first-team all-region performer.
Plasski was named to the
Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll 11 times this season and earned Most
Outstanding Player honors in the San Diego Surf N Slam, in which the team finished
2-0, and was named to the all-tournament team of the Marriott Courtyard Classic
hosted by the Greyhounds.
She also had 28 double-figure
scoring games and seven games in which she scored 20 or more poins. Her top
games included 25 points (11-for-19 field goals) with a career-best 10 steals
and five assists against New Haven (12/29/07) in the San Diego Surf N Slam,
25 points (9-for-14 field goals) against Saint Anselm (11/5/07) and 25 points
versus Molloy, NY (11/16/07).
She had a career-high 10
assists against Lander, SC (11/4/07) in the Disney Classic to go along with
15 points in her first career double-double.
She is the current career
leader in free throw accuracy (248-for-306) at .810 and has scored 1,058 points.
Plasski is just the fifth Greyhound to score her 1,000th point before her senior
year joining only Joy Barry '92, Katie Kerr '00, Stacy Mattioli '00 and Meghan
Sullivan '04.
An outstanding high school
player as well she played for Coach Steve Fernandes at Durfee High School (Fall
River, MA) and is the career scoring leader with 1,776 points. She earned all-star
honors from the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Fall River Herald-News and
