WORCESTER, Mass. --- American International College moved to a 21-7 halftime lead and held on for a 21-14 Northeast-10 Conference football win SATURDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Beckles carried three times to the 13 and then quarterback Shane Murphy connected with fullback Marcus Cameron (for the final 13 yards and touchdown. Placekicker JustinSokolove added the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

The Jackets drove 56 yards on 11 plays---27 coming off Beckles carries---on their second possession for a 14-0 lead. The Jackets converted three third-down plays in the drive---a one-yard sneak by Murphy, a 33-yard over-the-middle pass from Murphy to wide receiver Travis Poole and finally the touchdown pass to tight end Dylan Barkowski from two yards out. Sokoloff added the conversion.

The Greyhounds came right back as freshman DAVID CANNEY (Templeton, MA/Narragansett) returned the kickoff 33 yards to the Assumption 48. The drive was highlighted by two converted third-down plays . . . a 17-yard pass from freshman quarterback MARSHALL THARPE (Irvine, CA/Santa Magarita) to Canney and a six-yard quarterback keeper by Tharpe. Senior placekicker MIKE TOBIN (Woburn, MA/Woburn) kicked the conversion.

The game-winner came with just 48 seconds left in the half as the Yellow Jackets defensive back Brian Kelly blocked a junior JUSTIN ANTONE (Dracut, MA/Bishop Guertin) punt into the endzone. Defensive back Leon Mularski flopped on the loose ball for the touchdown and Sokoloff made the conversion for a 21-7 halftime advantage.

The Greyhounds climbed back into contention driving 70 yards in 12 plays following an interception on fourth down by sophomore safety CHRIS MARTINO (Lindcroft, NJ/Middletown South) and subsequent 25-yard return to the 30.

Senior quarterback JOE CORREIA (Melrose, MA/St. John's Prep), subbing for the injured Tharpe, came off the bench to lead the Hounds downfield. He completed passes to sophomore wide out JOEY FABIANO (Westwood, MA/Westwood) for 19 yards . . . to junior tight end JAKE LONGENECKER (Fernandina, FL/Manchester, NH West) for 12 yards and to junior wide out JAKE BEERS (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) for 18 more . . . before senior running back KEVIN L'ECUYER (Leominster, MA/Leominster) ran two yards for the touchdown. Tobin kicked the conversion making it a seven-point game (21-14).

The game came down to the Hounds last possession as they drove 57 yards in nine plays only to be stopped by the Yellow Jackets on a fourth-and-one quarterback sneak play. Tackles Michael Rafferty and Brian DeStephano stuffed Correia for no gain at their 21 with 1:58 remaining (and no time outs left).

LAST YEAR WITH MERRIMACK COLLEGE: Austin Davis rushed a record 46 times for 208 yards, scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion to lead the Greyhounds past Merrimack, 24-21, in heavy rain at the Multi-Sport Stadium. It was the first night home game in Hounds history!
Davis, who led the Greyhounds back from a 21-3 third-period deficit, finished with 308 all-purpose yards . . . 208 yards rushing, 44 yards on punt returns, 53 yards on kickoff returns, and three yards receiving . . . the second-highest total in Hounds' history. Only Billy DeMalia, who finished with 332 yards vs. Stonehill (10 14-2000) had more. His 46 carries are a new record eclipsing the old mark of 42 by Kevin Clive also against Stonehill (10-16-99).

Defensively, sophomore end JARED KELLY (Canton, MA/Xaverian) was a dominating force with 3-3--6 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one quarterback sack for 13 yards and five quarterback hurries. Senior linebacker CHRIS GROGAN (Scottsdale, AZ/Brophy Prep) led a tacklers with 1-11--12 tackles and added two break-ups and three hurries.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring as freshman CHRIS MARTINO (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) intercepted his fourth pass of the season---he leads the Northeast-10 Conference---to start the scoring march. Davis carried for 36 yards to highlight the drive capped by a 29-yard field goal by sophomore JON EISELE (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Vermont Academy). The Greyhounds led 3-0 with 12:51 left in the half.

Merrimack would answer with two second-period touchdowns to move to a 14-3 advantage at the break. Quarterback Colin Temple---who completed 20-of-42 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns---fired a 14-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Jawara Loftis to cap a 10-play, 72-yard drive. The play was the second Temple-to-Loftis connection on a third-and-long play in the march, while running back J.D. Wild rushed for 23 yards on six carries. Ryan Kelley kicked the conversion.

The Warriors struck again as Temple had five completions including three straight for 19 yards to Elfren Quiles, 19 yards to Wild and finally 18 yards to Chris McNeil for the touchdown. Kelley's conversion made it 14-3 at the break.

After Merrimack senior strong safety Patrick Marks recovered a fumble the Warriors drove 26 yards in four plays as Temple connected with Loftis (12 yards) and finally to Quiles (12 yards) for the touchdown. With Kelley's conversion the Warriors were in command 21-3 with 7:53 left in the third period.
After a short kickoff was recovered by junior ZACK MC KEEVER (Lunenburg, MA/Lunenburg) the Greyhounds stormed 58 yards in four plays---43 yards rushing by Davis including the last 16 for the touchdown---and a major penalty. Eisele's conversion kick made it 21-10 with 6:21 left in the third period.
The Hounds came roaring back again as senior nose tackle MATT CURRAN (Westminster, MA/Oakmont) recovered a fumble at the Merrimack 48. Davis rushed eight times in a the 11-play drive including six straight to the one-yard line. Quarterback Jon Breuer sneaked in from a yard out to bring the Hounds closer. A two-point conversion run by Martino was snuffed by Merrimack linebacker Matt Mikaitis. The crucial play in the march was a fourth-down conversion pass from sophomore MATT KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) to sophomore wide out JAKE BEERS (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) for 18 yards and first down to the Merrimack 27.

The game-winning drive was all Davis as he carried 11 times in a 12-play drive for 42 yards. He scored on a one-yard plunge and then scooted for a two-point conversion untouched and a three-point (24-21) lead. On the ensuing series junior end JOSH KELLY (Canton, MA/Xaverian) had three quarterback hurries to stymie the Warriors.
