NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM: junior forward MIKE FOTI (Franklin, MA/Franklin) was voted to the first team. He carries a 3.29 GPA as a Marketing major. Just back in action in the last two weeks after foot surgery, Foti had 19 points to lead the Greyhounds to a 78-75 win at Southern Connecticut Saturday.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL:
PATRICK SHEA (So., G/F, Salem, MA/Salem) averaged 15 points (8-for-16 three-pointers) and 2.6 steals in three games last week. Had nine points and a steal at Franklin Pierce, 21 points (6-for-10 three pointers) and five steals in a win at UMass Lowell and had 15 points with two blocks and two steals versus Saint Anselm.

Coach SERGE DEBARI '71, now in his 20th year overall in coaching, is 298-238-- getting close to the magic No. 300 . . . the men's basketball program is nearing 1,000 victories as their record stands at 988-795 since 1923 24 . . . no Division II team in New England has approached that figure to date . . . the Hounds own 50+ wins against Merrimack (56-36, since 1951-52), American International (53-45, since 1928-29), Stonehill (51-39, since 1948-49) and Worcester State (50-2, 1950-2000) . . . the Hounds are fourth in field goal defense (.424), third in rebounding (37.6), first in blocked shots (4.00), fourth in steals (8.38), third in defensive rebounds (25.2).

junior guard LEROY BYRON has now scored 662 points in his career . . . he averages 9.5 points (third on the team) and leads with a .780 free throw percentage (39-50) and 31 three-pointers . . . he has 10 double-figure scoring games so far with 20 at Mercyhurst his season-high with an amazing six three-pointers.

senior guard MIKE TAFT averages 5.3 points with 16 three pointers (16-for-46) . . . he has three double-figure games . . . 18 points (4 threes) vs. Adelphi, 17 points (3 threes) vs. Merrimack and 11 points (3 threes) vs. Rio Piedras.

junior forward MIKE FOTI has now scored 498 points . . . had season-high 19 points in the win over S. senior captain JUSTIN HOTCHKISS is back in action after recooperating from a broken little toe since early September . . . averages 3.4 points per game and 2.0 rebounds . . . scored season high 14 points vs. Saint Anselm (six-for-eight floor accuracy) with six rebounds.

freshman guard COURTLAND BLUFORD averages 9.5 points (fourth on the team) and 31.3 minutes (second only to Twomey) . . . he leads with 35 steals (10th NE-10) . . . he has 10 double-figure scoring efforts with 18 points vs. Bryant and at Saint Michael's his season-highs . . . eight rebounds is his best so far accomplished two time vs. Saint Anselm and LeMoyne . . . his season-high for assists is seven at Rio Piedras . . . hjas had three steals in each of the last three games . . . his grandfather Gideon is a former NASA astronaut.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM: senior point guard JESS PAULSON (North Providence, RI/LaSalle) was voted to the first-team, while junior forward/center MEGAN URBAN (Portland, ME/Deering) earned third-team honors. Paulson carries a 3.86 GPA as a Biology major with a career in biotechnology in the offing. She averages 7.2 as the Greyhounds starting point guard and is among the conference leaders in assists. Urban had a 3.76 GPA as a Math major (Education concentration) with a career as a teacher/coach in the offing.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL:
CHARDE FLOYD (Jr., F, Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) averaged 13.3 points, while shooting 63.2 percent (12-for-19 field goals) and 84.2 percent (16-for-19) at the line, 8.7 rebounds, and three steals in three games last week. Scored 22 points (8-for-12 field goals, 6-for-8 free throws) along with six rebounds, three assists and five steals at Franklin Pierce. Also had 11 points (3-for-3 field goals, 5 for-6 free throws), seven rebounds and two steals at UMass Lowell. Had seven points (5-for-5 free throws) with 13 rebounds and two steals in a victory over Saint Anselm.
KAYLA PARKER (Fr., F, Sanford, ME/Sanford) averaged 16.0 points, while shooting 61.3 percent (19-for-31 field goals) from the floor with 16 rebounds (5.3 average) in three games last week. Scored 20 points (8-for-15 field goals, 4-for-5 free throws), with seven rebounds and two assists at Franklin Pierce. Had 12 points (5-for-9 field goals) and five rebounds at UMass Lowell and 16 points (6-for-7 field goals) with four rebounds and two blocks in the win over Saint Anselm.

WOMENS HOOP NOTES: head coach Kerry Phayre is now 170 134 in her 11th season with the Greyhounds and coached her 300th game with the team at home vs. Massachusetts Lowell (1/17/07).

junior forward/captain CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) averages 12.2 points (second on team) (13th NE-10) and 8.5 rebounds (first) (3rd NE-10), 53 offensive rebounds (first) (5th NE-10), 116 defensive rebounds (first) (4th NE-10), shoots .614 from the floor (86-for-140) (first) (1st NE-10)---the only player over .600 in the conference---and has 57 steals (first) (2nd NE-10) . . . she has 863 career points . . . she has a good chance to become merely the FIFTH Greyhound women's player to reach 1,000 points in her junior year following only STACY MATTIOLI (1996-01) (1,791), KATIE KERR (1996-00) (1,530), MEGHAN SULLIVAN (1999-03) (1,468) and JOY BARRY (1989-93) (1,218) . . . Floyd averaged 46.5 steals in her first two seasons however has 57 through 20 games this season . . . her .591 career field goal percentage is second only to Katelyn Dwyer (2000-04) at .594 and she has already raised it nine points from .582 to start the season . . . she has 15 double-figure games to date (48 career) and eight double-figure rebound games (33 career) and six double-doubles (21 career) . . . she has shot .600 or better from the floor in 11 games this season . . . including one stretch in which she shot, 5-7, 5-6, 5-7, 8-10 and 5-5 from November 21 through December 5 . . . that's 28-for-35 = .800

MORE GREYHOUND NOTES

CASEY CARNEY '01, who scored 1,699 points in his career for the Greyhounds, will be formally inducted into the Bishop Feehan High School (Attleboro, MA) Athletics Hall of Fame May 11. Carney is the career scoring leader at the school.

KRISTIN GAUVIN '05, who ran track for the Greyhounds (2002-04) is now a Los Angeles Laker Girl. While at Assumption College, Gauvin majored in Business Management, earning Dean's List honors and graduating cum laude. Drawing upon 17 years of dance experience, she helped establish the College's first dance team. She was a candidate for a Fulbright Scholarship during her senior year. Off-campus, Gauvin was a member of the New England Patriots cheerleading squad, serving as captain during the 2003 season and cheering at the 2004 Super Bowl. During the same season, she was named the team's Cheerleader of the Year, which enabled her to travel to the 2004 Pro Bowl with 24 of the NFL's best cheerleaders. She was voted as the NFL Cheerleader of the Year in voting conducting on the nfl.com website after the 2004 season. She was crowned Miss Massachusetts (2005) and later competed for the Miss America title.

MIKE O'SHEA '59 PASSES: former basketball player MIKE O'SHEA '59, a member of the 1956-57 team (Coached by Andy Laska) that defeated Holy Cross (69-68) passed away January 19. O'Shea was also member of the College's faculty for over 40 years before retiring this past year.

EIGHT HOUNDS TEAMS POST 3.0 GPA: eight Greyhound teams have posted a 3.0 grade point average as a team as first semester grades are released: women's tennis (3.31), women's cross country (3.27), women's basketball (3.17), women's softball (3.139), men's cross country (3.136), women's lacrosse (3.11), women's rowing (3.07) and men's golf (3.02).

CHRIS BIRD NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA: junior goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD has been named to the second-team of the insidelacrosse.com preseason all-America selections recently released. Bird posted a .625 save percentage last season in 14 games (839 minutes) with 225 saves. He was also named one of three tri-captains for the 2007 season.

HOUNDS HALL OF FAMER NAMED AT CINCINNATI: Greyhounds Hall of Famer BRIAN KELLY '83 was introduced Dec. 4 as the new head football coach the University of Cincinnati (the Big East Conference). Kelly, who served as head coach at 1-A Central Michigan previously (2004-06) also coached at Division II Grand Valley State leading the Lakers to a pair of national titles. He was the keynote speaker at the Hounds football gala in August and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame that evening. He was a standout player and later coach for the Hounds. He also coached softball for five years.
