NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM: junior forward MIKE FOTI (Franklin, MA/Franklin) was voted to the first team. He carries a 3.29 GPA as a Marketing major. Just back in action in the last two weeks after foot surgery, Foti had 19 points to lead the Greyhounds to a 78-75 win at Southern Connecticut Saturday.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL:
COREY DIETHORN (Jr., F/C, Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley): averaged 21 points, three assists and two steals in a 1-1 week while shooting 53.1 percent (17-for-32) from the field. Scored a career-high 30 points (13-for-19 field goals) along with three assists and three steals in a win at American International. Had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists at Southern New Hampshire. He was also named to the Worcester Area Honor Roll.

GREYHOUNDS NOTES: Coach SERGE DEBARI '71, now in his 20th year overall in coaching, is 299-239---getting close to the magic No. 300 . . . the men's basketball program is nearing 1,000 victories as their record stands at 989-796 since 1923-24 . . . no Division II team in New England has approached that figure to date . . . the Hounds own 50+ wins against Merrimack (56-36, since 1951-52), American International (54-45, since 1928-29), Stonehill (51-39, since 1948-49) and Worcester State (50-2, 1950-2000) . . . the Hounds are fourth in field goal defense (.424), third in rebounding (37.5), first in blocked shots (3.87) and fourth in steals (8.35).

junior guard LEROY BYRON has now scored 674 points in his career . . . he averages 9.2 points (fourth on the team) and leads with a .780 free throw percentage (39-50) and 35 three-pointers . . . he has 10 double-figure scoring games so far with 20 at Mercyhurst his season-high with an amazing six three-pointers.

junior forward COREY DIETHORN is second on the team at 11.9 points-per-game and averages 7.7 rebounds (5th NE-10), 58 offensive rebounds (7th NE-10), 112 defensive rebounds (5th NE-10), 24 blocks (8th NE-10) . . . he has 14 double-figure scoring games with three 20 point efforts . . . 30 points at A.I.C. freshman guard COURTLAND BLUFORD averages 9.3 points (third on the team) and 30.9 minutes (second only to Twomey) . . . he leads with 38 steals (10th NE-10) . . . he has 11 double-figure scoring efforts with 18 points vs. Bryant and at Saint Michael's his season highs . . . eight rebounds is his best so far accomplished three time vs. Saint Anselm, LeMoyne and S.N.H.U. . . his season-high for assists is seven at Rio Piedras . . . his grandfather Gideon is a former NASA astronaut.

sophomore guard/forward PATRICK SHEA (nephew of former Hound guard Tim Shea and cousin of former Hound women's guard Mackenzie) averages 9.1 points with 33 steals (14th NE-10) and 20 blocks (11th NE-10) . . . he has eight double-figure scoring games with the best being 21 points at Mass. NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM: senior point guard JESS PAULSON (North Providence, RI/LaSalle) was voted to the first-team, while junior forward/center MEGAN URBAN (Portland, ME/Deering) earned third-team honors. Paulson carries a 3.86 GPA as a Biology major with a career in biotechnology in the offing. She averages 6.3 as the Greyhounds starting point guard and is among the conference leaders in assists. Urban, who averages 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds, has a 3.76 GPA as a Mathematics major (with an Education concentration) with a career as a teacher/coach in the offing.

NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL:
BETHANY PLASSKI (So., G, Fall River, MA/Durfee): averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 assists and three steals last week. Had 10 points, four assists and three steals at American International and then scored a career-high 29 points (11-for-21 FG) along with three steals and an assist in a win at Southern New Hampshire. She was also named to the Worcester Area Honor Roll.
KAYLA PARKER (Fr., F, Sanford, ME/Sanford) earned Worcester Area Freshman Honor Roll after scoring 13 points with seven rebounds in the win at SNHU.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week:
sophomore MOLLY O'CONNELL (Sandy, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) won the shot put for the second straight week by claiming first at the Smith Invitational with a career-best distance of 40 feet, 1.25 inches (12.22 m).
Named to the Weekly Honor Roll were:
CAITLYN CLARK (PG, Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) won the mile (5:08.28) and placed third in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:33.22 at the Smith Invitational.
JOE KOWALCZYK (Gr., Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) won the shot put for the third straight week by claiming first at the Smith Invitational with a distance of 47 feet, 7.5 inches (14.21 m).
CHRIS O'DAY (Fr., Braintree, MA/Braintree) finished second in the 800-meters with a career-best time of 2:02.17 and ran the third leg of the fifth place 4x400 meter relay team at the Smith Invitational.
NICOLE PANKEY (Sr., Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) won the triple jump (33-6.75/10.23 m), finished third in the 55-meter race with a time of 7.68 (career best), and placed fifth in the 200-meter race with a finishing time of 28.20.

former Hound basketball standout CASEY CARNEY '01, who scored 1,699 points in his career for the Greyhounds, will be formally inducted into the Bishop Feehan High School (Attleboro, MA) Athletics Hall of Fame May 11. Carney is the career scoring leader at the school.

BERNIE GAUGHAN, Hounds Hall of Famer, and former football coach (1982-94), was named to the MBCA High School baseball Hall of Fame recently (inducted last Saturday). His teams have compiled an impressive 366-199 record since 1979 at Clinton, MA High School.

KRISTIN GAUVIN '05, who ran track for the Greyhounds (2002-04) is now a Los Angeles Laker Girl. While at Assumption College, Gauvin majored in Business Management, earning Dean's List honors and graduating cum laude. Drawing upon 17 years of dance experience, she helped establish the College's first dance team. She was a candidate for a Fulbright Scholarship during her senior year. Off-campus, Gauvin was a member of the New England Patriots cheerleading squad, serving as captain during the 2003 season and cheering at the 2004 Super Bowl. During the same season, she was named the team's Cheerleader of the Year, which enabled her to travel to the 2004 Pro Bowl with 24 of the NFL's best cheerleaders. She was voted as the NFL Cheerleader of the Year in voting conducting on the nfl.com website after the 2004 season. She was crowned Miss Massachusetts (2005) and later competed for the Miss America title.

MIKE O'SHEA '59 PASSES: former basketball player MIKE O'SHEA '59, a member of the 1956-57 team (Coached by Andy Laska) that defeated Holy Cross (69-68) passed away January 19. O'Shea was also member of the College's faculty for over 40 years before retiring this past year.

EIGHT HOUNDS TEAMS POST 3.0 GPA: eight Greyhound teams have posted a 3.0 grade point average as a team as first semester grades are released: women's tennis (3.31), women's cross country (3.27), women's basketball (3.17), women's softball (3.139), men's cross country (3.136), women's lacrosse (3.11), women's rowing (3.07) and men's golf (3.02).

CHRIS BIRD NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA: junior goalkeeper CHRIS BIRD has been named to the second-team of the insidelacrosse.com preseason all-America selections recently released. Bird posted a .625 save percentage last season in 14 games (839 minutes) with 225 saves. He was also named one of three tri-captains for the 2007 season.

HOUNDS HALL OF FAMER NAMED AT CINCINNATI: Greyhounds Hall of Famer BRIAN KELLY '83 was introduced Dec. 4 as the new head football coach the University of Cincinnati (the Big East Conference). Kelly, who served as head coach at 1-A Central Michigan previously (2004-06) also coached at Division II Grand Valley State leading the Lakers to a pair of national titles. He was the keynote speaker at the Hounds football gala in August and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame that evening. He was a standout player and later coach for the Hounds. He also coached softball for five years.
